Hamas and the power of hatred

Sunday March 8, 2009

Categories: Islamic terrorism

Had a conversation this afternoon with someone in a position to know, who told me this story. An Israeli soldier who had served in Gaza came home to his town in Israel to a hero's welcome. But he didn't want to be welcomed back. He just wanted to see a rabbi.

He told his rabbi that his unit had been engaged in house-to-house combat with Hamas. They'd cornered a somewhat high-ranking Hamas leader in an apartment complex, but the Israelis wouldn't blast him out because they knew women and children were present. So they waited. And waited. Finally, the order came to withdraw. As the Israelis were drawing back, the man they sought showed himself in the doorway, carrying a gun and a tiny baby. He was smiling at the Israeli soldiers. He took the butt of his gun and smashed in the head of the baby, smiling the entire time, then turned and went back into the apartment full of women and children.

"The message," said the man who told me this story, "was this: 'We are the kind of people who will kill babies with a smile on our face. You won't do this, and that is going to be your downfall. You may have won this time, but we are going to outlast you."

And you believe this story?

The story is hard to believe. One reason is that if you are close enough to see that it's the butt of a gun, you are close enough to shoot the child-killer either before or after he kills the baby.

The current Israeli government isn't likely to be behind this sort of story, true or false.

I know quite a few Religious Zionist Jews, and they wouldn't believe it without further evidence, either.

I suppose the story could be true, but whose kid was it?

Man, did you get this one spot on.

Too bad more people don't know the truth about Hamas.

Rod, you should know that people would call this story bunk.

That is unless the man with the baby in the doorway were Dick Cheney.

I agree with fred2, hard to believe that while the man was smashing the childs head in, or even after, that no soldier thought of putting a bullet in the man? Obviously don't knowthe situation, but if he's in full view in a doorway, hitting a child with his gun butt, that people just stood and watched?
