I deeply, seriously love this image from our longtime reader B.D. Rucker, who posted it in a combox:
It's times like this I'm really glad I don't have cable TV. I heard about Michael's death (yes, I've long referred to him by his first name as I first became a fan at age 7) at an outdoor concert in Brooklyn's Prospect Park Thursday evening. After the show, they played "I'll Be There," a popular Jackson 5 song, over the PA system. All of us -- we were several thousand -- sang along, some hugged and cried, some raised their lighters. Then, as we filed out of the venue, a crowd spontaneously gathered around some musicians (a drummer, bass player and singer) and everybody sang "Billie Jean" together. It was lovely. And real. That is all the memorial I need.
Beautiful.

The fact that the previous post was probably NOT written by an ironic prankster makes me shake my head.
OMG Where was everyone at when Michael was so in need of Help. His dad, family and friends are saying they knew he needed help of pain medicine, than why didnt they give it to him. Why weren't they there for him, until now. He has been on pain medicine for 15 years, and now that he is dead, everyone including his family and ex's is doing what they should of done years ago and that is showing that they cared, being concerned, trying to get him help and not to mention what Michael wanted most of all was to be loved and prove he was he best. Well Michael you were, Just wished it wouldn't of taken your death for everyone to show it. Michael never had a life, and when he tried to be a kid, and be generous well guess what sick people took advantage of him and accused him of child molesation. Just lets talk about good things of Michael Jackson, pray for his children, pray they dont grow up like Michael and leave his financial and other personal issues alone. Michael Jackson was and always will be king of pop and someone that wanted to be a child. Our prayers are with you Michael and hope you are at peace. God Bless you.
Remember to always think twice...
Village Voice just republished an article I've been looking for and first read 25 years ago on comparisons with MJ and Bruce Springsteen in 1984.

P Diddy: "He showed that you can actually see the beat. He made the music come to life. He made me believe in magic."
Here I've tried to collect all notable tributes and quotes on Michael Jackson from peers: http://www.tributespaid.com/quotes-on/michael-jackson
