Whipped Texas 11-4 in the deciding game of the College World Series. Much whooping and stomping around triumphantly in my house at this moment. Did I mention that Mrs. Dreher is a Texas alumna? Pray for her, the poor dear. If I wake up tomorrow morning with my throat -- or something -- cut, I garontee you that I'll deserve it. Woooooooooo Tigers!

Scott,
News takes a little time to get to Oregon despite the giant "tubes" of the Internets, don't it?
LSU won the CWS in 1996 (remember Warren Morris' two-out, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth against Miami?) and then again in 1997 (total butt-kicking of Alabama).
Apart from that, call ME when Oregon State has won six national championships in anything.
Though it may make some like Brett R. "ill," soccer is a more crunchy con game than baseball in my book.
Beauty? Check. Tradition? None like it. Localism? Absolutely. Able to be played by young & old alike? Yep.
The "beautiful game" is nearly unmatched in its simplicity: 22 players, 90 minutes, no timeouts, no extravagant halftime shows, very simple rules, no ketchup-mustard-relish races, minimal equipment, etc.
Sounds crunchy con to me!
There was no doubt, this year, that the two best teams were playing in the finals, and that the (slightly) better team won. Conrats to the Tigers, who deserved the title.
The Longhorns had their way in the second game, and the Tigers had their way in the third. It really all hinged on the first game, which could have gone either way. Texas had their chances, but couldn't seal the deal.
The one thing that put LSU over the top, in my opinion, was defense. They fielded the ball much better and more consistently than Texas did. That enabled them, on several occasions, to escape from what could have been big innings for Texas.
Geaux Tigers! It was a thing of beauty. The natural order is restored with the Tigers at the top of the college baseball world again.
It's nice to mess with Texas!
What a great article.
