Of cads and strange bedfellows (Erin)

I've managed to ignore, for the most part, the David Letterman vs. Sarah Palin smackfest in which Letterman (unwittingly, he says) made Palin's fourteen-year-old daughter the subject of a sex-related joke, and Palin fought back by inviting him to go hunting with her and former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Okay, no, that last bit is made up. But the whole episode seems depressingly like an object lesson with what's wrong with political discourse in America. Letterman should have known better (and it doesn't really improve the situation when he claims that no, he was joking about Bristol, age 18, not Willow, age 14, even though Bristol wasn't at the baseball game Letterman was joking about--a politician's daughters don't belong in anyone's public "barely legal" fantasies); but at the same time, the number of angry statements coming from Palin, her husband, and others about this is only exacerbating the situation, and making a lot of people aware of Letterman's racy and inappropriate material involving the Palin family who otherwise would never have heard it.

And that includes people like me; I never watch Letterman anymore and rarely ever did, and wouldn't know the least little bit about this controversy of manufactured outrage on both sides if the headlines didn't keep growing about an incident that quite frankly proves nothing other than that Letterman is, apparently, a bit of a cad. But then, so are many other late-night television hosts; if being a bit of a cad disqualified a person from sitting behind a desk and interviewing gushing members of the glitterati in between playing with pets or vats full of gelatin or things that float or whatever the hook of the day aimed at the slightly inebriated males age 18-34 who are the prime demographic for these programs might be, then all of our late-night shows would be hosted by people currently appearing on HGTV.

So why comment on this depressing bit of showy political pugilism at all? Because something has happened that made my jaw drop: the conservative, pro-life group Concerned Women for America and the National Organization for Women actually agreed with each other:

"There's a saying that out of the heart, the mouth speaks, and Letterman's statement reveals a pretty ugly reflection of who Letterman may be," Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America, told FOXNews.com.

"When he said those things, they were thought through. He probably kicked them around with his writers who thought it was appropriate to say these reprehensible things." [...]

The National Organization of Women also blasted Letterman for inappropriate "jokes" on its Web site Thursday.

"Comedians in search of a laugh should really know better than to snicker about men having sex with teenage girls (or young women) less than half their age," NOW said.

"The sexualization of girls and women in the media is reaching new lows these days -- it is exploitative and has a negative effect on how all women and girls are perceived and how they view themselves."

If these two groups actually agreeing on something isn't a sign of the Apocalypse--well, it should be.

Or maybe it's just proof that women, whatever their politics, don't mind drawing together momentarily for the purpose of giving a very cold shoulder to a cad.

For once, the National Organization of SOME Women gets it right. Rarely do they come out and speak out when the misogyny comes straight from the Left. (because NOsW isn't really about women; it's about 'liberal' women).

..and btw, of course the Palin family is getting fed up with the hateful, nasty things said about them. E.g., who could forget earlier this year when SNL ran a skit accusing Todd Palin of "Doing" his daughters? Haha, so funny----NOT. sorry, that was just sick. Yet SNL did it because they are liberal writers for whom there is nothing too low and disgusting (just like Letterman gag) if they think the can trash a conservative and get away with it. They have no problem with misogyny when it comes to trashing conservative women. Just ask Michelle Malkin, who knows a thing or two about being treated that way by the Left.

DAVID LETTERMAN'S HATE, ETC. !

David Letterman's hate is as old as some ancient Hebrew prophets.
Speaking of anti-Semitism, it's Jerry Falwell and other fundy leaders who've gleefully predicted that in the future EVERY nation will be against Israel (an international first?) and that TWO-THIRDS of all Jews will be killed, right?
Wrong! It's the ancient Hebrew prophet Zechariah who predicted all this in the 13th and 14th chapters of his book! The last prophet, Malachi, explains the reason for this future Holocaust that'll outdo even Hitler's by stating that "Judah hath dealt treacherously" and "the Lord will cut off the man that doeth this" and asks "Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother?"
Haven't evangelicals generally been the best friends of Israel and Jewish persons? Then please explain the recent filthy, hate-filled, back-stabbing tirades by David Letterman (and Sandra Bernhard) against a leading evangelical named Sarah Palin, and explain why most Jewish leaders have seemingly condoned Palin's continuing "crucifixion"!
While David and Sandra are tragically turning comedy into tragedy, they are also helping to speed up and fulfill the Final Holocaust a la Zechariah and Malachi, thus helping to make the Bible even more believable!
(For even more stunning information, visit MSN and type in "Separation of Raunch and State" and "Bible Verses Obama Avoids.")

Hey Alexander, next we can play the "Bible Verses that Some 'Christians' Ignore" game. That'd be some fun.

Since the comment was one of those lost last night, I wanted to re-commend Letterman for apologizing for real on yesterday's show.
