Naked Texas Baptists unite!

Tuesday September 15, 2009

Categories: Not the Onion

I don't know if the Calvary Nudist Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas is for real -- I very much doubt it (the address isn't on Google maps) -- but if it is, these Baptist gives a whole new meaning to the hymn, "Just As I Am." Personally, I wouldn't want to sit down on those pews after prayer meeting, if you know what I mean.

They make no sice at all as to what they say makes it right for them to do that. They take Genesis 3:11 way out of context. If you actually put it in contex it does not make it right at all to go to church naked. And before you try to say it does, read all of Genesis 11 for yourself first. The world is coming to an end, it is getting evil and True Christians are being pursecuted more and more every day. I know who God is and i know what He has done for me. The day of his return will be such an amazing day, it saddens me that so many people are choosing the path of destruction instead of giving their heart to Jesus Christ..

On the post above this one, i meant to say Read all of Genesis 3 for yourself, not just Genesis 3:11.

No, the "Calvary Nudist Baptist Church" is not for real.

But trust me... the existence of conservative biblical Christians who find no prohibition on social nudity is *very* real.

I was born and raised Baptist. I have my undergraduate degree from a theologically conservative Bible School. I've spent 15 years in pastoral ministry in conservative Evangelical churches. I hold fast to the fundamentals of our faith and the authority and inerrancy of God's Word.

When I was challenged on the notion that Christians could be practicing naturists/nudists, I was pretty sure that I could rebuff their claims with half by Bible tied behind my back. Instead, I found people who revered God's Word as much as I. And I found a presentation of Scriptural truth that I could not argue with.

In short, when I dug in and examined God's Word for myself to discern God's mind and heart regarding the human body and whether it is clothed or not, I found that I simply could not defend the ideas I had been taught and believed and practiced all my life.

In fact, I have come to believe that things we were taught about our bodies are more gnostic than biblical. I have concluded that the nudity taboo is a man-made rule which falls squarely under category of rules that we should actively reject, because as we can clearly see from Scripture, if we bow to man-made rules, they do NOT promote the true righteousness of God... rather, they actually hinder it (See Col. 2 and Jesus' various responses to the Pharisees).

Therefore, I have -- as a committed, God-fearing, and Bible-believing Christian -- become a Naturist by Biblical Conviction.

Nor am I alone.

If you care to explore more of what I believe, I've started a blog where I have been posting about why and how I came to such convictions. I would welcome your interaction there.

Thanks for letting me post here.

P.S. Nudists do not ignore hygiene issues... for the record...
