Wall Street stiffs compliant Obama
NYT reports that Wall Street bigs have decided to be stingy to the Democratic Party, staying away from a big fundraiser scheduled for tonight in Manhattan. This, after all Team Obama has done for them? Tsk, tsk. From the Times:...
Wall Street is not on any side other than it's own, including Obama's side.
But despite that, Obama *is* on Wall Street's side as opposed to the American people's side -- and especially the side of "bitter" people who live in small towns, and soon-to-be "bitter" people who live everywhere else and who will soon come to realize that they have more in common with people who live in small towns than they used to think.
Anyway, these two facts tell you all you need to know about Wall Street and much of what you need to know about Barack Obama.
They're making a fool of Obama, and he's willing to be made a fool of.
Tell us something we don't know. "Fool" is a kind word for the donkey pit who is in the elliptical room.
Another way to see this:
Obama -- textbook snob that he is -- spits down on small towns, spits down on Main Street.
Then he sucks up to Wall Street.
Then Wall Street spits down on *him.*
But then he spits down on Main Street again.
And then he sucks up to Wall Street again.
And then Wall Street spits down on him again.
And then his communications czar says she loves Mao Tse Tung.
And then he won't go commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall, like every other leader in the world.
And then he spits down on Main Street again.
And then he sucks up to Wall Street again.
And then Wall Street spits down on him again.
[Repeat ad infinitum inserting periodic maladroit gaffes, periodic failed initiatives, periodic international crises, and periodic disclosures of fruit-bat left associations and sympathies and you'll have the whole rest of the Obama years without having -- would that it were so -- to live through them]
Your Name,
True dat.
I guess it strikes me that people act as if its odd that politicians suck up to wealthy people at fund raising dinners while our political campaigns are, by law, pretty much all privately financed. Next thing you know, symphony orchestra directors will be doing the same!
But in order to save the capitalist system ...
If our current system is "capitalism", then it is not worth saving. Fortunately there is nothing in capitalism that requires massive corporations and financial systems. In fact, since corporations are simply state created gollums they are distinctly not a feature of pure capitalism.
My feelings exactly.
I wish there were some way of isolating this one thing many on the right and left share in their dismay at Obama's administration so far. But I'm not sure you could get the teabagger types to really throw down against the mega-wealthy. I don't think it's in their DNA.
Obama is too concerned with reelection to ever make a real move against Wall St.
A whore's still a whore, even if her John sneaks out without paying.

Grumpy Old Man - you should try a different browser. It's my guess that you're using Internet Explorer, which is notorious for that.
ON TOPIC: Our system is not true capitalism. It hasn't been for quite some while. If it were, many more people would be without homes and food. Those of us who are unemployed wouldn't be getting checks. Our system is greatly flawed thanks to those in charge. :-\
Not only was TR better-versed in what was seen as important in flyover country, due to his ability to mix with -- and win fights with -- his cowboy buddies in NoDak, not to mention an apparent lack of race prejudice, but he had enough family money to be able to thumb his nose at selected big business.
Which is a long-winded way of saying we need a good old-fashioned round of trust-busting.

Fair enough. We can start with the biggest "trust" of the bunch: the United States government, provincial subsidiaries and all.

"...In order to save capitalism, the administration has to..."
The Obama administration WANTS to save capitalism....?
