Monday November 2, 2009

A graph showing the interaction of characters in the film version of "The Lord of the Rings," "Star Wars," and other films. Very cool:

Primer is a science fiction time travel film with a really convoluted plot.

Another thing I noticed was that this graph and, I assume, the movie version of TLOTR has Saruman and Wormtongue dying at Isengard and not in the Shire as in the book.

Was that the case in the movie?

That particular scene was cut from the theatrical release version. It's present iirc early in the Extended Edition release of 'Return of the King' on DVD.

The Extended Edition releases of all three movies are held to be far better than the theatrical ones. Especially 'The Fellowship of the Ring', with 'Return of the King' close behind. A lot of the plot holes and continuity problems in the theatrical release vanish in them.

Peter Jackson did take some liberties with the storyline. Fans find most of those to detract from the tale, though some are good and reasonable.

If you like that, you might find this one for Star Wars of interest (and there are other diagrams - some on the Bible - if you click on the link at the top of the page).

Primer is time travel movie. Shot for $7,000, it won Sundance in 2004 for Drama. It is my holy grail of the kind of film making I am doing.
