Via Western Confucian, here's an hourlong presentation about swine flu from a Sister Teresa Forcades, a Spanish nun who is also a physician (and, alas, a pro-abortion feminist, which has nothing to do with her competence on medical matters)
An English-language summary of her remarks is here. The gist is that she believes the H1N1 panic may have been falsely ginned up for the sake of increasing the power of the state on a false pretext. A key piece of evidence for her case: the undisputed fact that Baxter, a vaccine manufacturer, sent a batch of contaminated vaccine to the Czech Republic, where it just happened to have been discovered by a researcher. Had people been vaccinated with this stuff, it would have killed untold numbers, and likely set off a new and very deadly global flu pandemic (according to a Bloomberg report on the Baxter error, up to 70 million could have died worldwide if the deadly avian flu virus in the Baxter vaccine had gotten into the human population). The conspiracy-theory take on this is that the Baxter foul-up, which the company admitted, was no accident, but a deliberate attempt to manufacture a global health crisis.
Basically, Scary Flu Nun warns people to be scared of H1N1 vaccines, saying that they could be dangerous to your autoimmune system, and could be used for nefarious political purposes. She says take the flu vaccine if you want, but nobody should feel panicked into doing so by a false and manufactured sense of crisis. She strongly hints that she believes a transnational conspiracy might be behind trying to frighten people about the flu for political purposes. She's either a smart lady who sees through some nasty things, or a dangerous conspiracy nut whose advice might make a lot of people sick or dead. Your comments invited.

36,000 People who could have had a flu shot die every year in the US from that disease, because their immune systems couldn't do the job naturally. That's because the virus replicates like wildfire and kills before the body can make antibodies to it.

Baxter is growing the virus in a Vero cell line. That line was isolated from the kidney epithelial cells of an adult African Green Monkey, circa 1962. The vaccine production process is considered ethical for Catholics, but probably not for Vegans who will in any case also have problems with flu vaccines made in eggs.
I'm not sure why production in the Vero cell line is considered dangerous. It's a well-characterized line that has been tested and used by biologists for over four decades. What makes this cell line particularly useful for flu vaccine production is that it can be infected with influenza viruses (seasonal, avian and swine) to produce virus particles without the need to rely on fertilized hen eggs. The technology has the potential to produce a vaccine more rapidly and could shorten the response time to new flu strains.
Vero cells are currently used in production of other licensed vaccines such as inactivated poliovirus (IPV) and inactivated rabies vaccine. The IPV vaccine was licensed in the US in 1990 and was(is?) one of the primary vaccines for inoculation of infants and children in the US.

'If the contamination of the vaccine material from Baxter had not been accidentally discovered, an extremely grave pandemic could be by now a shocking reality. The appalling lack of political and mass media reaction to what happened in February in the Czech laboratory it is inexplicable. What is even more inexplicable is the degree of irresponsibility demonstrated by the WHO, by governments and by the national health agencies in declaring a pandemic and promoting a maximum health alert without a real rational basis. It is irresponsible and inexplicable, in the extreme, that billions of Euros from public funds have been spent to manufacture millions of doses of vaccines against a non-existent danger, while there is not sufficient money to help the millions of people (more than 5 million in the US alone) who due to the current economic crisis have lost their job and their home.'

Actually I am a Jew, an Atheist and a Liberation Marxist (trying to liberate Marxism from the Marxists, Marx, and the younger me). I am also a survivor of both cancer of the spleen and a double angioplasty (say heart) operation. And 74.
My son alerted me to the Sister Teresa story. I was in the USA at the time and had been advised by my doctor there (a cardiologist) that I should 'definitely' take the vaccine. An experienced ER doctor, met informally, confirmed the advice, and on hearing my doubts, said 'I never met a vaccine I didn't like'. Back home in the Netherlands, my doctor told me 'I have no reason to doubt government recommendations'.
Now the 'nutty nun' is having her challenges confirmed by the Russian ex-Communist Pravda (Truth) and by the Arab-financed Al Jazeera, not to speak of that holiest of all news organs, the BBC.
I am more than somewhat relieved to have my decision to not take the vaccine hereby confirmed. Not only did I not get the H1N1 flu, I may even have prolonged my life by not taking the dubious vaccines. And by reducing - if only fractionally - the profits of Big Pharma, armed, dangerous and quite out of control.
My conclusions?
Doubt everything (Marx's favourite one-liner, and mine because it also means Doubt Marx)!
For Sister Teresa, Big Respect! Compassion and truth can come from the most unexpected quarters.
