Discovering “My Catholic Marriage”

posted by jmcgee | 7:11pm Sunday November 29, 2009

With a little free time to explore today (!), I wandered over to For Your Marriage, the website on the sacrament set up a couple years ago by the USCCB. I visited there a few times when it first debuted, but it had fallen off my radar screen.  I was curious to see how it’s evolved.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover it’s now hosting a full-blown blog, called “My Catholic Marriage,” written by a newly married 23-year-old known simply as Sarah H. Sarah is writing about the adventures — and misadventures — of married life, as seen through a Catholic lens.

Just last week, she announced the happy news that she and her new hubby, Daniel, are expecting:

sarah_daniel_crop.jpgI must admit that I’m really not enjoying this first trimester of pregnancy, but that’s just not that important–obviously, Daniel and I are both ridiculously excited and happy. I am overwhelmed by the fact that there is, right now, a tiny, brand new human being growing inside of me with its own unique, made-to-live-forever soul! God is so good!

My due date is June 9th, so right now I am eleven weeks along. On Monday of last week I had my first sonogram, which was incredible. The baby really looked like a baby, even at only nine weeks, and we got to see him or her move around, waving one of his arms and wiggling his lower half (for the sake of not getting wordy/awkward, I’ll use masculine pronouns this time, and switch off between the two for other entries). I never knew such a tiny little thing could be so darn cute! We also got to hear his little heartbeat, which is so much faster than mine.

Hearty congrats from the Bench to the mom-to-be (and dad, too!).

Meantime, I’d encourage readers to pop over to Sarah’s blog for a visit. It’s a refreshingly sane, life-affirming corner of the blogosphere (how often do you hear THAT said about a blog?) and a must-read for anyone who is married, engaged, or just giving serious thought to spending the rest of your life with another human being. “My Catholic Marriage” helps put it all in perspective.  Check it out.

Big day in the Big Easy: 10 new deacons
Deacon Mike Talbot has the scoop: 10 men today were ordained as Permanent Deacons for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This group of men was formally selected on the day the evacuation of New Orleans began as Hurricane Katrina approached. The immediate aftermath of the storm for this class would be
