The sister at the abortion clinic: "Her actions are in violation of her profession..."

Tuesday November 3, 2009

There have been some developments in a story I posted last month, about a Dominican sister working as a volunteer escort at a Chicago abortion clinic.

From American Papist:
Public Statement of the Sinsinawa Dominican Congregation
"Several months ago the leadership of the Sinsinawa Dominicans was informed that Sr. Donna Quinn, OP, acted as a volunteer escort at a Chicago area clinic that among other procedures, performs abortions.
After investigating the allegation, Congregation leaders have informed Sr. Donna that her actions are in violation of her profession as a Dominican religious. They regret that her actions have created controversy and resulted in public scandal. They are working with Sr. Donna to resolve the matter appropriately."
Congregation leaders offer the following statement on behalf of members of the Congregation:
"We as Sinsinawa Dominican women are called to proclaim the Gospel through the ministry of preaching and teaching to participate in the building of a holy and just society. As Dominican religious, we fully support the teaching of the Catholic Church regarding the dignity and value of every human life from conception to natural death. We believe that abortion is an act of violence that destroys the life of the unborn. We do not engage in activity that witnesses to support of abortion."

They are " working to resolve the matter"? What on earth can this possibly mean? What an Alice in Wonderland Church in which we now find ourselves.

Rev Pauli,

Thou shalt not kill doesn't come from the "dogmatic demands of the Catholic church"...it comes straight from God.

Elizabeth ...I wish that you could see the beautiful, selfless work being done to help women and their babies in my community and others all over the world. It would touch your heart and I believe that you would no longer be so quick to judge us.

Elizabeth,

What planet do you live on? Because here, on earth, Christians the world over stand just punishment for those that commit violent acts such as rape and murder.
Even Pope John Paul II said that the death penalty is NOT immoral and is necessary in some (rare) cases. Otherwise, life in prison is the preferred method of punishment.
If anybody is soft on criminals, it is the liberals of the world. They make excuses for their behavior and never hold them accountable. The support Acorn gets from liberals is an excellent example of this.
BTW.... If anybody is spouting a "self righteous" hot air, it's you! To claim that abortion is okay as long as Christians aren't adopting all the unwanted kids of the world is incredibly ignorant. Why not hold the parent's of these kids accountable for abandoning/neglecting them and imprison them? Killing a kid because he is "unwanted" is a page right out of the Nazi Party handbook. How typically "liberal" of you!

Has it been considered that Sr. Donna isn't condoning the actions of the mothers, but showing them mercy and forgiveness, in the way that Christ would? There are people who would do harm against her and these very confused and distressed women, for their own self-righteousness. Would they be better in the eyes of the Church than Sr. Donna, who is showing compassion where most cannot find any? Killing is wrong, and inherently most people know that. Still, many women who have abortions see no other solution in their lives. Can anyone fathom how hopeless that must be? It takes a strong person to see beyond the immediate act, and be able to offer that assistance and compassion to another human being. No one has a right to judge Sr. Donna but God.

Kristina...

Somehow, I can't see Christ showing mercy by volunteering as an escort at an abortion clinic.

Blessings,
