Dolan: “Haiti is the broken, bloody body of Jesus”

posted by jmcgee

I had the privilege of seeing this video early this morning at the USCCB in Washington.

The Archbishop of New York is in Rome, celebrating the anniversary of the North American College. Catholic News Service tracked him down late yesterday and asked him to share his thoughts.

Here he is, uncut and unscripted.

Meet Montana's married priest
Earlier this week, I posted an item about Montana getting its first married priest. Now a local TV station has hopped on the bandwagon. Take a look, below.

Big day in the Big Easy: 10 new deacons
Deacon Mike Talbot has the scoop: 10 men today were ordained as Permanent Deacons for the Archdiocese of New Orleans. This group of men was formally selected on the day the evacuation of New Orleans began as Hurricane Katrina approached. The immediate aftermath of the storm for this class would be

"Gesu Bambino," anyone? This is one of my favorites, and nobody does it better than these gals: Kathleen Battle and Frederica von Staade. Enjoy.

There WAS only ONE broken, bloody body of Jesus and there IS only ONE holy Father and it’s not the pope.

Haiti is a country where the majority does not believe in Christ. To say that Haiti is the broken, bloody body of Christ is blasphemy. I feel bad for the children of Haiti and I pray that mission work can still be accomplished there to help reach souls for Christ. There is only 1 way to Heaven and that is through Jesus Christ, our risen Lord and Saviour. Only Christ can forgive sins, not Mary or a pope or a Catholic priest.

The Truth…
Well, The Truth is…over 10 million Haitians, about 80% of the population, are Catholic. Many are very devout.
And, the last time I checked, we Catholics do, in fact, believe in Christ.
Blessings,
Dcn. G.

I am always amazed at how some Protestant people have to filter any piece of information through their very limited understanding of salvation history. The Archbishop’s image of the suffering, broken Body of Christ is very Pauline, as Christ is the Head and we are the members. Such ignorance and prejudice on the part of Debbie and THE TRUTH is sickening and only shows how underdeveloped their theological model is…very immature! You ought to investigate what the Church teaches, the CATHOLIC CHURCH, and get the skinny on TRUTH prior to the escewing of Protestant perversion of the MESSAGE.

Now is not the time for disagreement. Now is the time for charity. In times of tragedy, the Catholic church has a tradition of letting bygones be bygones and helping those affected without regard to their beliefs or ways of life.

Archbishop Dolan’s remark that, “Haiti is the broken, bloody, body of Jesus, is right on target. Deacon Kendra lasered in on its Biblical source calling the remark, “Pauline.” St. Paul did teach that through human suffering we make up in our bodies what was lacking in the suffering of Christ. A mysterious teaching! Nothing was actually lacking but so intimate are we related to Christ through in suffering to the crucified Jesus, that we actually become ONE with him and help complete as it were, his work of redemption. I hope the nasty remarks of some about the Archbishop’s comment are due to ignorance, not anti-Catholic malice. Thios is the teaching of the Bible-loving Catholic Church.
