Hours after dozens of CBS News staffers were laid off — many of them, friends and former colleagues of mine — this video popped up on the Harper’s Bizarre website. It’s touting Katie Couric’s appearance in the magazine’s annual fashion issue.
In terms of bad taste and bad timing, it’s just mind-boggling.
Decades hence, when people are studying the downfall of the American media, this will be required viewing.

Although our paths didn’t cross until we had both left the media business behind, you know that I was there too. I find this whole thing offensive.
This is also a reminder that message aside, let’s not get on some bandwagon of praising CBS for airing one thing and denying another. I hate to sound cynical, but a lot of what that whole flap is about is over a decision that I think is more based on money and buzz than principle.
Of course, I could be wrong.
After seeing this Katie nonsense, I am inclined to think I might not be.
30 years of my life in the media business… it is a sad place right now; I am grateful for my low paying but fulfilling church work today.
