I think this is just terrific. The fact that Winfrey is bringing these gals on during February sweeps is telling — she knows that they’ll be a draw, and that she’s offering something the world rarely sees, and probably doesn’t quite understand. I’m sure she has a lot of questions, and I have no doubt she’ll get some great answers.
And there’s this: when was the last time a global audience of tens of millions — the majority of them, women — actually saw on television a group of happy nuns? Who knows what kind of impact that could have, on vocations or on evangelization.

I suppose she could’ve interviewed some of the “modern” nuns, but she probably didn’t want to scower the four corners of the earth to track all five of em down

Wow, that is great! I have a special place in my heart for Dominican nuns. When I first returned to the Church I had a misguided thought that I had a vocation to be a cloistered Dominican. (Yes Deacon, tis true) In any event, I spent so much time with a group of Dominican nuns who helped reveal to me that I indeed had a vocation, just not that one.
This is really nice to hear.
FWIW, I grew up with wonderful nuns (Sisters of the Divine Compassion, White Plains NY) and have always had the great fortune to be around amazing women religious. The mean nun stereotype really saddens me.
