Happy and generous missionary,
who loved the Gospel more than your life,
who for love of Jesus left your family,
your homeland, your security, your dreams,
Teach us to give our lives
with a joy like yours,
to be in solidarity with the outcasts of the world,
to celebrate and contemplate the Eucharist
as the source of our committment.
Help us to love to the very end
and, in the strength of the Spirit,
to persevere in compassion
for the poor and forgotten
so that we might be
good disciples of Jesus and Mary.
Amen.

Thank you for this post. Father Damien’s life is remarkable in that he surrendered completely to God’s will in his service to the lepers of Molokai. Definitely, he teaches us something in how to live our lives and the joy that it brings, regardless of your surroundings. A great book for anyone wanting to know more about him is “Damien the Leper” by John Farrow, father of Mia, famous movie director and world traveler.
My 6 year old son, Damian, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and loves to hear the many stories of his patron saint. Along with Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II, perfect saints for our times!

I discover Fr. Damiem when I went to church in Lahaina and I alway remember him and now I am praying to him to ask God that little Olivia Brooks,15 days old, whould be saved from all or many of the affictions that the doctors are suggesting. Give he parents the strenght and faith to believe that Fr. Damien will help.
