He passed away today at the ripe age of 97.

People of a certain age can’t help but feel the loss. He had a way about him that was endearing, heartfelt and funny — and unfailingly kind. He had more than his share of heartbreak — a daughter who took her own life, a son who died in a car accident — but he remained forever the optimist.  (Maybe it’s more than coincidence that he slipped away on the feast of St. Philip Neri — surely, a kindred spirit.)

Art Linkletter also serves as a reminder of what a difference just one life can make. Linkletter was born to an unwed mother, who gave him up for adoption. And the rest is history.
