I’ve wondered about that for a while, and now this curious piece in the New York Times — in the Fashion section, believe it or not — confirms it (though Coulter, it seems, is, um, un-comfirmed…literally):
Ms. Coulter was born in 1961, the youngest of three children in suburban New Canaan, Conn., where she was schooled early in Republican politics. Her father was an ex-F.B.I. agent and labor lawyer; her mother, a homemaker from Kentucky active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mr. Coulter’s older brother, John Coulter, recalled a dinnertime debate when Ms. Coulter was 8 and the family argued over whether states should help pay for private education. The family agreed they were against it. She was baptized Catholic, like her father, but never confirmed. She now attends a Protestant church, like her mother did. “I tormented my mother by saying I didn’t believe in God when I was a teenager,” she said.

I believe that Ann Coulter has made a significant shift away from the Catholic Church, by her failure to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation AND by attending publicly an Evangelical Protestant Church, so she would have to make a profession of faith in a Catholic Church and reject her Protestant beliefs before she could really be considered a ‘Catholic’ again.

She has never herself claimed she was a Catholic, however, and in a fairly recent discussion on Fox News, referred to herself as a Protestant.
I suspect she never was a practicing Catholic, outside of her baptism, as is often the case when the mother is a non-Catholic. The hand that rocks the cradle…
She’s a sad person — she’s painted herself into a corner with her outrageous and inflammatory comments and is now only ever asked to be on anything to be outrageous and inflammatory. She’s become her own caricature. After a while, you just can’t top the last outrageous thing you said without becoming a bore and a fool, which is pretty much where she’s at right now.
Also, the little black cocktail dress thing is waaaaay old. And she’s way old to be trying to rock it anymore.

I think she is far from ‘sad person’ Your name. Ann is just who she is, that’s it…she’s not your cookie cutter cookie now is she? I get a charge out of watching how quick witted she can be without ever using script or the Obamapromter….regardless of her religious affiliation she can always make me smile. I believe God has a sense of humor or we would not find it as part of our demeanor. And thank God for that…she likes to shock and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that…keeps life interesting to put it mildly, rotten tomatoes and all. Go Ann

Wow,as a “former” Catholic, whatever that means, I AM a Christian. Some of these comments are quite disturbing to me, regardless of how one feels re: Ann.
“I suspect she never was a practicing Catholic, outside of her baptism”…SAY WHAT? Does one become “practicing” when one is sprinkled? Not even having decided about being Christian but having the parents bring one to the altar? No, one chooses to be Baptized. did Christ ever advocate being “confirmed”?
As a “former” one of the most disturbing things is watching the arrows shot at “formers” like me by the “faithful” as if ones denomination matters? Isn’t it about Christ, and being Christian? Or if one is not a “practicing” Catholic, all is lost? Maybe this all just confirms that more biblical teaching needs to occur in the Catholic faith.
