Who can forget the haunting ballad by Gordon Lightfoot? The Edmund Fitzgerald went down on November 10, 1975.
Years later, the tragedy formed part of the first homily I ever delivered in homiletics class (and which I preached again later after I was ordained.)
God bless those men, and their families.
