I always think this whole situation is kinda odd: while former anglican and episcopalian priests will be able to mantain both of the vocations they were called to, cradle catholic men won’t be able to. I’m sorry but, in a way, it’s unjust. I agree that celibacy is good, it should always be higly esteemed, and if God calls you to be celibate, then that’s awesome. But what if you’re called to both vocations: be a priest and be a hubby? Cause that’s happened to these pastors. If they were called to be husbands and priests, and the church recognizes this, then the church has to agree on the fact that maybe she’s hindering God’s will for the lives of some men. Again, i’m not against celibacy.I think it’s awesome. But if our eastern rite siblings have that, why can’t we imitate them? With the pastoral provision and the “anglicanorum coetibus”, haven’t we created an odd and unjust situation in our church for some cradle catholics? because then the roman church recognizes that a man can be called to both the priesthood and marriage. Again, aren’t we hindering God’s will for some catholic men? I think we’re holding on too tight on man made “traditions”

The only reason the church started making priests not be able to marry was because of money. Early priests and even popes were married as were many of the apostles and the bible even speaks of bishops being married to one wife. So the notion that all priests need to be celibate beause it is a higher calling from God is a crock.

I think you are making a huge assumption here: that God is calling men in the Latin Church to both the priesthood and marriage.
In order for that assumption to be true, either the Church does not have the authority to make the decision to limit the priesthood to celibate men as a matter of discipline, or the Church has the authority and has made a mistake in doing so.
The other option is that the Church has both the authority and has exercised it correctly. God is certainly smart enough to call men in the Latin Church to both celibacy and the priesthood while calling men in the Eastern Churches to both marriage and the priesthood.

YOUR assumption is incorrect. 1º of all, the Church has the authority – and has always had it – to limit the priesthood to celibate men. But with the pastoral provision and the “anglicanorum coetibus”, the church has entered into the ODD and, in a way, UNJUST situation of ordering some former angligan & episcopalian pastors as priests while at the same time still not allowing that possibility to cradle catholics. Nobody knows what God’s Will may be. And, since celibacy is NOT God’s commandment but rather a man-made tradition and recommendation, then God can EASILY ask the Church someday to revert compulsory celibacy, as that has been the case in the permanent deaconate.
Lynn, I totally agree with you. God can do anything He wants, and like I said, he may ask the Roman Church someday in the future – if he’s not asking it now – to revert mandatory celibacy. Again, let’s not cling to a recommendation. Let’s cling to God’s Will.

Now try to become a priest then get married and you will end up like that dork in florida – excommunicated.
