The Catholic League's Naughty List

Friday November 30, 2007

Categories: Christmas

The Catholic League, a group that is famously active in the annual holiday culture wars, has released a list of early offenders in what League president Bill Donohue calls efforts "to censor Christmas." Among those he lists are:

-- The Los Angeles City Council, which renamed the annual "Hollywood Christmas Parade" the "Hollywood Santa Parade"

-- Chattanooga, Tenn., which banned a nativity scene from its public December festivities.

-- Briarcliff Manor, New York, which elected to ban all religious symbols after it was ordered to erect a creche next to a menorah.

-- Fort Collins, Colorado, which allows red and green lights to be displayed on City Hall, but allows only "secular symbols" inside the building.

Said Donohue, "The multicultural monsters are rearing their ugly heads once again, showing what they really mean by tolerance for diversity.”

The Catholic League, a group that is famously active in the annual holiday culture wars...

I think you have a typo in that sentence. It should read:

The Catholic League, a group that is famous for creating the myth ofthe annual holiday culture wars...

Corrected. There ya go. Glad to help.

I agree with Donohue about "what they really mean by tolerance for diversity"...but calling them "multicultural monsters" and "ugly" just makes him (and his point) look so bad. Namecalling and all just makes the "culture wars" worse and makes the Catholic League look hackneyed and less credible.

As Christians, we are called to emulate Our Lord.....that means, his teachings....not his martyrdom. IMO, the Catholic League is trying to set itself...or, perhaps all Christians up as martyrs.

Why oh why would I need to see Christmas decorations everywhere I go to appreciate Christmans.

Why oh why would I want someone insincerely wishing me "Merry Christmas". Is Our Lord better served by insincere displays...or, by true devotion by his followers?

Peace!

I am not surprised that Chattanooga Tennessee is an offender.. MY grandaughter and I were stranded there when I had trouble with my car. I called churches to just get a ride to the interstate to see if the car would start. One church lied to me. I talked with one lady who said she needed to page the pastor. I called back to see if she had made contact, another person answered the phone and said the pastor was out of state. When I told her the discrepancy she stated that there wasn't going to be any help from them because that is not what the church does. I was in a motel next to the Christian Broadcasting station.. I entered and asked if there were any Christians in Chattanooga and was told not in the churches. I was informed that there were cliques who were bigoted and were keeping those who were being charitable from giving food to the homeless by enacting ordinances. No matter what religion one may be, to love and do onto others is the core value expressed. Just because one puts a bed in the garage and climbs upon it doesn't make one a car. To dress up and go to church doesn't make one a Christian either. Satan is alive and well in Chattanooga Tennessee. I also left the car there because I was told it was not fixable. I don't know if it was highway robbery: tow car, say no repairs can fix car, over 1000 miles to get the car home to someone I trust and know, now they got the car and even scrapped today would be worth about $300. I also had a 70 tow bill I paid. Joy to the World goodbye farewell to Chattanooga Tennessee.
