Congress Takes on Christmas

Wednesday December 12, 2007

Categories: Christmas

This week, the U.S. House voted overwhelmingly, by a vote of 372-9, to support a bill called "Recognizing the Importance of Christmas and the Christian Faith." But Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is reportedly upset, according to this FoxNews.com article, that 9 members of Congress, all Democrats, chose to vote against the measure.

King told the news outlet that he had introduced the bill because of his concern over "secularists in the country who are trying to eradicate Christ from Christmas," and because similar measures supporting Islam during Ramadan and Indian religions during the festival Diwali had passed with no dissenting votes this past October.

"I would like to know how they could vote 'yes' on Islam, 'yes' on the Indian religions and 'no' on Christianity. The foundation of this nation and this culture is Christian.... I think there's an assault on Christianity in America," King said in a release Wednesday.
