Martin Luther King Jr. and Occupy Wall Street

posted by Jana Melpolder

What would the incredible MLK think of faith leaders today? I think that he would not have supported certain points of the Occupy Wall Street movement, such as people writing graffiti to get the message across. Civil disobedience has been an important point in Occupy Wall Street, but we sometimes forget that decades ago people had to deal with hoses and dogs, rather than mere pepper spray like today. It’s not the same world for social movements as it was in Martin Luther King Jr’s time, but that’s certainly a good thing. Check out one video that explores what he might think of social movements.
