God on the Verge

Wednesday March 11, 2009

I can't help feeling and thinking that I am on the verge, like most of us these days.  On the verge, or edge, of a lot, good or bad.  It's an uncomfortable and tenuous position to be in, like "on the fence," or "almost there."  I don't like it!  But I must put my faith into action again and again, and learn to love what God brings.  I am learning to be comfortable on the verge.

After months of anxiety and worry about the economy, we're on the verge.  Will the bottom come soon?  Will it get worse?  Like my friend Scott says, "Has the Titanic hit the iceberg yet?"  God only knows.  I say, "at least the Titanic had an orchestra!"

After years of working hard, there's more work to be done - more jobs to get, more money necessary to make ends meet.  I'm on the verge of being financially sound and safe, but not quite there yet.  I am going to stop worrying and take more actions. The time is now to spend less, conserve, work harder.  God knows, we will survive.

Being on the verge really really tests one's faith.  No longer able to take comfort or find strength in career, the job, the possessions, there's only one thing to do when near or at the bottom.  That is to put my entire life into the care of my Creator.

So, I send you greetings from the edge.  I wave to you, dear friend, with arm outstretched from the verge.  The future is now so completely unknown, only one thing is clear: worrying doesn't help.  There's no use in letting panic, dread or fear stop me in my tracks, and be stuck on the edge.  The clear and only way is to have faith, stronger than ever before, that there is a reason why we're falling and searching for answers.

We're on the verge so we will reach for something more.  Something more than money.  Something more than a false sense of security from our pretty things, our big homes and car, our cool techno toys.  Something REAL. The only reality I am finding is the one that is unseen, unheard, invisible to the limited human senses - a spiritual reality that exists because I have been rescued and revived time-and-time-again.  GOD IS REAL.  God exists.  He doesn't cost anything, either; all we need to do is ask him for help.  Then help arrives; you can bank on it.

More and more these days, I'm learning that putting all I have into God is the only stability I find.  Everything else is only illusion and fleeting worldliness.

No one is sweeping the floors in heaven I am sure...no manual labor other than the labor of love which I am yearning for myself. I truely believe though, we are serving our "sentence" right now, here on earth. I have watched so many "good" people die over the past several years that I think we've been going through rapture and those who have "served their time" for their sins are taken home. I pray every day to be taken and he doesn't take me...There's still something I need to do here or I still have some floors to sweep first. I wish he'd leave me a chore list though.

I have expressed the exact same sentiments in the last few couple of sentences in your comment, Sue. I, too, pray to be taken by God each & every day. I still feel like He has something here on earth for me to do/accomplish. My big question is always, "What is it Lord that You want from me? What do You want me to do on this earth? Would You please guide me to what it is?" Like you, I wish He would tell me what to do so I can go do it. I know this economy is scary right at the present, but we have to trust in the Lord that He has us going through this for a purpose. What purpose? Only He {God} knows. And, He's not about to tell us anything, except to trust Him & if we can do that, we will come through this economy fine with God on our side.

Wow, Sue!!!

I am a firm believer of the word of God and I know that when our work on this earth is done that he will take us home but you have to remember that whatever we are supposed to be doing is something only he knows and when you pray to be taken home I think he just adds more to our chore list so to speak because everything is in his timing not in ours until you reach that spiritual maturity you are on Gods green earth.

In regard to the "good" people that have gone on before us well we really do not know where they are and we can only pray that they made it through those pearlly gates but we really won't know til we get there and see if they are there to greet us!! you can be a good person and not make into heaven it is Gods salvation and grace that get us there.

I will never forget my favorite passage"God is good, all the time, all
the time,God is good."Whatever situation or problem my family or
loveone is facing right now,the most important thing is the condition
of my heart,a heart that only knows GIVING and GIVING LOVE,no place
for any form of fear because among the three:Faith,Hope and Love, the
greatest is LOVE.
