Thank you for the consequnces of excessive water drinking. The disc jockeys of that radio station will have to live with their conscequences of their actions of encouraging the young lady to hang in there instead of giving her a consolation prize.

I read somewhere that one should drink half his/her body weight in water. As I am 300 pounds, I must drink 150 ounces of water a day and thus be confined to my home or be near a toilet when travelling. Am I right or wrong?

Don't forget that food has water in it too. A lot of the liquid we need daily is in our food.

I was recently told that to get the correct number as to how many ounces of water you should drink per day you should take your weight & devide it in half, so if you weigh 150 pounds you should drink 75 ounces of water.

Of course! Too much water, especially w/o eliminating it, will cause an unbalance of electrolytes which can stop your heart just like pulling a switch! As a nurse, I've seen people who seem to be addicted to water. We even had to put signs up warning not to give these patients water b/c they would call in staff from from the hall, such as lab techs, respiratory therapy, or radiology, to ask for water, which would thro them out of the balance we had worked so hard to find! This is known as polydipsia, & is a symptom of several disoders. Diabetes is one, & I'm here to tell you, it's almost impossible to not drink when your mouth feels like cotton. But to put a body through such torture for a game?? Unbelievable. The station should have consulted an MD first!

That family should have gotten anything. That was the mothers choice to drink all of that water. She would have been better off going to the store and buy a wii.
