Hazel Dunlin, founder of Avalon Moon in Delhi, NY, opened her shop in 2005 with the intent to support and encourage people on their individual spiritual journeys. Avalon Moon provides a bountiful assortment of items and services to foster practices of religion, both Pagan and non-Pagan.
Visitors of the store will find a gracious, friendly, responsive atmosphere filled with an extensive array of practical tools for use on spiritual paths. There is a wide selection of herbs, essential oils, incense, and gemstones. There are also shelves brimming with knowledge in text and image form. Over 300 titles on metaphysics, angels, shamanism, enhancing psychic abilities, ancient history, and witchcraft can be found at Avalon Moon along with tarot cards.
As an artist, Hazel Dunlin can be engaged to design and apply henna tattoos, a safe temporary stain that is applied to the skin. For centuries, Mehndi body art has been practiced in India, Africa, and Middle East, where the henna plant is believed to bring love and good fortune and to protect against evil. Mehndi is traditionally practiced for wedding ceremonies, during important rites of passages and in time of joyous celebration. A paste is made from crushed leaves of the henna plant and applied to the skin in a decorative design. The beautiful artwork will last from 1 to 3 weeks before fading away.
When I interviewed Hazel, she was preparing for an upcoming workshop by Cary Bayer, author of the book, Spirit and Money. Hazel has a quiet room in the back of her store for public meetings or meditation. The room is also utilized for confidential readings and Reiki treatment, therefore, Hazel was actively scheduling clients who wanted a reading done by intuit, Lily Jean, who was offering her services in the store that day.
Our spiritual journeys are varied and unique. It is nice to see how people allow others to determine how they best understand the deep questions that come to our minds. Fortunately, Hazel Dunlins one criteria is universal Love.
