Here’s today’s dispatch from the crossroads of faith, media and culture.

A story for the Americas. Movie to Movement, the Jason Jones-founded organization dedicated to “endorsing and producing films that promote a culture of Life, Love, & Beauty,” has announced a partnership with Renegade Productions and Leo McWatkins Films to present The Blood & The Rose to audiences on Thursday, January 24th to benefit Catholic Charities of Washington D.C.

The documentary film, narrated by Eduardo Verástegui (Bella) and directed by Renegade Productions CEO Tim Watkins (In The Face of Evil: Reagan’s War in Word and Deed),  The Blood & The Rose tells the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe whose reported divine apparition in 16th century Mexico helped further the spread of Catholicism in North and South America. Shot on location in Spain and Mexico, the film is executive produced by Steve McEveety whose film credits include Braveheart, We Were Soldiers and, of course, The Passion of the Christ.

“I am thrilled to finally share this film, which I am so dearly committed to,” says Director Tim Watkins.  “This amazing story begins with the history behind this miracle, and how through the Virgin of Guadalupe, a Catholic identity was formed and grew in the Americas.”

Funds raised at the event will help Catholic Charities continue in its mission to serve Washington D.C.’s neediest communities through 63 programs in over 48 locations across the District and surrounding Maryland Counties.

“We are excited to raise funds for Catholic Charities while sharing this amazing story of the Virgin of Guadalupe with audiences,” says Movie to Movement CEO and Founder Jason Jones. “Movie to Movement aims to support events and films that send positive messages to Hollywood, and we look forward to accomplishing that goal through this endeavor.”

The event will be held at Washington D.C.’s historic Warner Theatre from 7:00 – 9:30 P.M. (ET) and will feature prominent speakers including Fr. Leo Patlinghug. The EWTN host is an expert on subjects related Mary and is the founder of Grace Before Meals, a movement aimed at bringing families back to the dinner table. Catholic Charities CEO Msgr. John Enzler will also be a keynote speaker.
