JewTube v Jewhoo

posted by bfeiler | 11:41am Saturday September 15, 2007

Google is preparing to sue the starters of JewTube claiming copyright infringement, but Yahoo avoided doing the same over Jewhoo. What is the Jew.S.A. coming to? Come to think of it, maybe we should start a contest for the best Jewish ripoff products. The winner can get a box of Fig Jewtons. Please submit nominees in the comments area.

Apparently, Google doesn’t have a sense of humor when it comes to puns related to its YouTube video site. jewtube.bmp
The company is preparing to challenge the use of the name “JewTube” for a Jewish-related video site on trademark grounds, according to a filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, which was reported on by WebProNews.
A lawyer for NetParty, listed as the owner of JewTube, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. A Google spokesman said he was checking into the matter.
Meanwhile, Google rival Yahoo apparently wasn’t so bothered by Jewhoo, a Jewish-oriented blog. However, Yahoo did try to block the use of Ya-Hooka, a directory of marijuana-related links, back in 1999.

The Man Who Started It All
In WALKING THE BIBLE, he's still sitting there forever, behind a cloud of smoke, saying, "People like me don't have time to talk to people like you," then calling me at home that night to introduce me to Avner. The last of my brother's blogs. * * * I was on the floor the other day and came across a man of about forty who wore on his left breast what looked like a military medal. A small ribbon pinned to his chest with a medallion hanging from it. It was the credential that his grandfather wore at the 196

Feiler Faster in Denver -- Day 3
My brother's dailiy blog from inside the hall. * * * President Carter addressed the Georgia delegation this morning. Recently, he said, he'd been interviewed by the editor of the British newspaper "The Guardian" and had been asked whether a President Obama could change America's reputation in the

Feiler Faster in Denver -- Day 2
My brother's latest blog. He's the official photographer of the Georgia Delegation. * * * Considering I described myself yesterday as a pop culture moron, the funniest response I've gotten so far was, "Who's Angela Bassett?" In the wake of opening night there's been a lot of play about Carville and

Bruce,
Even a Gentile such as I can see that the JewTube folks have failed to see the greater goal: Jewgle. Jewhoo seems less a threat, as it could be easily mistaken for Jew-hoo, a delicious and chocolate-y (and might I add kosher) drink. I would love to win the Fig Jewtons, although Jewcy Fruit (a kosher Jewing gum) is an equally sweet but less fattening alternative.
Thank-Jew again for keeping puns alive in the Jew.S.A; I have read 3 of your books so far and always appreciate your sense of Jewmor. If the Anti-Defamation League takes umbrage with this (again, Gentile…) post, I will recommend we call you as a mediator and settle things over a couple of ice-cold Hebrewskies.
