The Man Who Started It All
In WALKING THE BIBLE, he's still sitting there forever, behind a cloud of smoke, saying, "People like me don't have time to talk to people like you," then calling me at home that night to introduce me to Avner. Now, nearing 100, he has finally passed.Avraham Biran, an archaeologist of biblical site

I was on the floor the other day and came across a man of about forty who wore on his left breast what looked like a military medal. A small ribbon pinned to his chest with a medallion hanging from it. It was the credential that his grandfather wore at the 196

I’ve eliminated the name of the PR agent to protect her from her parents, who would surely be ashamed.
Ashamed of what, exactly? Of doing her job? Of defending her faith? What?

Where I live, my family often comments that no one does Christmas like the Hindus. They love this season (can you say “materialism”???). The lights around town are wonderful. At dinner tonight, a friend of mine even commented that her neighbors (who are Hindu) are planning their menu for a Christmas dinner. Every shop here says “Merry Christmas”. However, what they mean is,”Thank you for spending money with me today!”. I have gone from “Season’s Greetings” to the opposite.
I find it sad that there is so much effort to outlaw Christmas decorations and greetings in the US, but I have also had the perspective that the materialism that surrounds this holiday season is quite sad in itself.
But Bruce, honestly, don’t pick so much on the Catholic League’s PR agent. In the US, as a Christian, one does begin to feel a bit persecuted. It isn’t an aversion to the inclusion of everyone’s faith as much as weariness of exclusion of all things Christian. When interfaith relations mean that one faith must recognize and respect other faiths but not dare share their own, there isn’t much hope for a relationship – in my ever so humble opinion.
