"The Ten Most Anti-Christian Movies of All Time"

Saturday December 8, 2007

All the bloviating about the so-called "War on Christmas" just might provoke a war after all. New York mag decides to join the fray, on the anti-Christian side.

Amid a welter of publicity for its supposedly anti-Christian message, The Golden Compass finally arrives in theaters today. We've seen it, and despite our high hopes, this neutered adaptation of the first entry in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy will probably not kill God or turn America's children into atheists like the Catholic League promised. But given half a chance, any of the films on our list of the Ten Most Anti-Christian Movies of All Time just might.
Monty Python, I get. But Name of the Rose?

What about Ishtar? Rather than having to watch the entire movie, several audience members committed seppuku with their soda straws.

I actually think it's funny that the article seems to imply that the production and viewing of these movies in any way inhibits God's ability to woo our souls and usher us into truth. These movies do not represent truth. They represent, perhaps, someone's bitter experience with religion, their frustration that they cannot make God in their own image, and...unfortunately...all the material we Christians have given them to work with in making these "Anti-Christian" movies.

It has been said that we are living in a post-God era, and the culture we live has an increasing interest not only in removing God from the public forum, but in making atheists out of anyone who will listen.

This is not a new thing, and it is actually amusing that the writer of the article would treat it as though it were. In Paul's time, people were being killed for their faith, yet God still drew people to Himself and invited them into an wonderful and intimate relationship with Him. Christianity...more to the point, followers of Christ...has certainly withstood greater adversity than that brought on by a few movies. God is so much bigger than that.

Thank you for the information. It would be great to comment on every new movie, if it is anti-christian or not.
