Bonsai IV: 1625 Miyajima White Pine

Miyajima White Pine
This bonsai tree has been in “training” since 1625 and survived the Hiroshima blast. For more on its remarkable history, see Hiroshima Survivor at the National Bonsai Foundation’s website.

Wow! It’s fascinating not only that this bonsai tree survived for so long, but that there has been continuity in its care over several centuries. I’ve been caring for an italian cypress; I guess I should start thinking about who its next caretaker will be… :)
