Wow, Valerie, wow! I loved your entry about Tibetan singing bowls because first of all, I’m glad you’re finally on the mend after that nasty bronchitis, and second of all, it turns out I have a singing bowl sitting in my dining room but had no idea what it was!
My friend Mike brought it back for me from Nepal several years ago, and showed us how to make the sound by moving the wooden dowel around the rim. (Side note: I’m fascinated by the leather-covered dowels because, um, do Buddhists “do” leather?)
I totally thought I knew what it was: a Buddhist begging bowl that doubles as a meditation chime (you ring the top, then “ding!” the side to begin or end a meditation session, right?). I’d say I should have Googled it, but I’m glad that I got to learn about it instead from you who were (sort of) healed by it. Thanks!

I like the singing bowls, I have a very tiny little one. I also have been in guided meditations, with a glass singing bowl. The vibration that comes out of those is beautiful. You feel it.
A glass singing bowl in in my wish list. For now I use my tiny little bowl in the mornings.
Thank you for sharing,

To my parents increasing aggravation, when it was my turn to dry the dishes after dinner I used all of our glasses as singing bowls of a sort. I found the sound soothing, and as an extra benefit, it drove my younger sister nuts – which got our parents into the “discussion”. I have always loved the glass harmonium too. Some folks can’t stand the sound, but it reaches right into my core and finds my chord.
The Buddhist bowls are astounding and wonderful things. I have been thinking about introducing our congregation to them during our Lenten Meditations.
