Chi Energy: What's Your Patronus?

Friday February 20, 2009

patronus.jpgRemember the "Patronus" spell, which takes a different form depending on the person who casts it in the Harry Potter books and movies (Harry's is a stag, Hermione's an otter, etc)?  That's how I've been thinking about what it feels like when chi energy moves through the human body.  In Harry Potter's world, the Patronus is a protective charm, and because everyone needs different protections, everyone's protector looks different.

So too with chi energy, that mysterious force that each of us--in our very different bodies--need to keep flowing to maintain health and inner peace.

Yesterday at my acupuncture appointment, I felt my chi-Patronus in full force. It's like a cool, sudden shiver-wash that starts at a point and spreads out like a crashing cymbal's sound waves.  In the past, I've also experienced a humming sensation in my lips, or even the feeling that my mouth is watering (in a "Mmmmm, donuts...." kind of way).

What does your chi-Patronus look like? And when do you experience it - on the acupuncture table? Just before you fall asleep?  On the subway?  When you hear a certain piece of music?

When I do I Ching readings for others, I advise them to hold the coins in their hands, right up next to their dantien (Dantien refers to the point in the body which is considered to be the storage point for the Chi energy in the body. The Dantien is located in the abdomen three finger widths below and two finger widths behind the navel.)

Then I ask them to visualize that Chi moving, into their hands and through the coins, then up an arm, through their bodies, then down the other arm and through the coins again, until they feel that their Chi energy is moving through the coins. Once they feel that connection with the coins, they proceed with the "tossing" process.

People tell me that with practice and concentration, it soon moves from a purely mental exercise to one that they can physically feel, generally as a tingling sensation.

It helps a great deal in the focusing and opening that is part of the personal divination process.

I have had a number of Tai Chi instructors who were great guides in getting your Chi moving.

I am also a Christian but see nothing wrong with this self healing. I don't see it as people are worshipping false gods. I see it as a way for people to find the inner strength needed to get through the day and help find inner peace in a crazy world. It sounds like total relaxation.

I cannot believe some of the comments on here!!Come on People, what is wrong with people trying to be the best they can be??? Feel the best they can feel? I myself believe in God. I am an LMT and practice YOGA,have had accupuncture, Chiropractic care and see a holistic MD. I have had much better results with NATURAL forms of "Medicine" than what the drug companies push. I believe its so much easier for some docs to write a script for meds, than it is to really take the time to sit and listen to the patient and try to get to the root of the problem. Remember Medicines started with Plants and roots. Sounds to me like the so called "Bible Thumpers" Need a Massage. China, Japan and even India are so much more advanced in eastern medicine. Heck even parts of Eurpoe have us beat. They are not all Satan worshipers.

I feel I would rather trust Mother Nature (God in view) than to trust mere humans. Humans are so fallible and we come from the earth (nature) so why not trust from where we come? Love;and God is love.
