Fresh Morning: We All Reflect the Same Sun

posted by vreiss | 5:00am Friday February 20, 2009

“The sun shines down, and its image reflects in a thousand different pots filled with water. The reflections are many, but they are each reflecting the same sun. Similarly, when we come to know who we truly are, we will see ourselves in all people.” –Amma, the Hugging Saint

I love Ammachi for her tireless compassion, endless stream of hugging (she embraces tens of thousands of people a year), incredible social work, and vast patience. She’s also a constant reminder of what’s really true and important. A BS-free guru. Click here to check out more quotes from Amma.

Waking Up to Your Dreams (by Wendy Schuman)
Are you a frustrated dreamer? I know I am. I often wake up with fragments of scenes echoing in my mind that seem really meaningful--but then I leap out of bed, start my morning routine, and in seconds they're gone. I want to linger in that realm and tap into the guidance and insight rising from a wi

Prayer for the Gulf from the 13 Grandmothers
Because I lack an engineering degree and don't understand why we can't just stop this thing NOW with a 10-ton wad of gum or giant boulder or massive Q-tip, I'll share more spiritual wisdom from elders. This is from the beautiful, amazing International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers--they each

Fresh Morning: Worry Away the Worry
"Worry is a prayer for something you don't want." - Sharon Gannon I love that. The other day someone expressed concern about my excessive worrying habit, and I've been contemplating on it ever since. Doing my best to actually contemplate, rather than worry. I've been on a renewed Gilmore G

How Did You (or a Loved One) Heal from Cancer?
In addition to co-writing this blog and working at Beliefnet full-time, I'm writing a book. We are so obsessed with our outer appearances that we spend hours on looking good and judge a person from what he wears , where he lives and where he works. But have we ever stopped to wonder what is our inner essence.Have you ever sat in a crowded mall and just observed people. In unawareness, their true personality shines out and we can perceive whether the person is a calm compassionate person or a harried ,materialistic person.Even a beggar can be a satisfied soul emanating peace while a billionaire in his multi-million dollar mansion is fearful and stressed. You go to a hospital and visit the cribs of babies and you will see that each baby has its own distinct essence-So what makes this essence? Or are you born with it? Can you change this essence to be a better human being? I welcome your views and opinions on this topic before I give my own views

I believe we’re born with a soul, within that soul is our inner most being created by God. The soul is eternal, it’s the one part of our existence that goes on unending throughout time. This post makes you think. I agree, you don’t have to have money to be at peace, comfortable in your skin. And, your skin doesn’t have to be pretty, either.

I think we are born with the “essence”. God provides us the opportunity to improve this “essence” through the trials and experiences that we go through in our lives. Every experience is an opportunity for growth and maturity to find truth, peace and hope within us. Decisions and choices is the only determining factor which shapes your essence and your happiness. The power that we have in us is immeasurable as long as we really understand the real meaning of happiness which has nothing to do with the way you look, how much money you have or the things that you own. All those things are privileges that God gives you. The real challenge is allowing your heart to grow, to love unconditionally and to love yourself, to help others and help yourself, to accept the dreams that God has put in your heart and simply just go for it. To realize that when we are no longer here we will leave just like we came with nothing but that pure “essence” that God has given us and hopefully we were successful and had a positive impact on ourselves and every person that we touched along our path.

Hi, I have always believed that each of us has a soul that is our own self, some of us choose to show our soul to others and others of us keep our souls private. I have two sons, 27 and 25, they were asking me one year what I wanted for Christmas. I explained to them that I was not into material things, which they alrady knew. I explained to them that it could as simple as a blade of grasss to the gift of their heart. I explained to them that a gift that is from the heart is the most important gift that anybody could give or recieve. They have grown into fine young men.

I believe that we are born with an inner essence and also have the capability to change it in order to be a better human being. We live in an impermanent world, spending our time to build up our own worldly desires. Instead we should direct it to help others. We should never judge people by the way they look, the way they dress or the people who they hang out with. Treating someone with kindness and respect will make you feel happy and bring out that inner essence in you.
