At Valentine’s Day a woman’s fancy turns to thoughts of chocolate. Where I come from, chocolate is a health food (turns out, science agrees!). So what are your favorites?
Here are my current favies–Green & Blacks organic caramel and almond milk chocolate bars, Lake Champlain (made in Vermont!) dark chocolate peppermint crunch, and a big honkin’ 62% cacao beauty from Scharffen Berger.
Though I’m mostly a break-off-a-piece-and-chomp chocolate eater, I can’t resist baking with it too, and used the Scharffen Berger this week to make these itsy-bitsy chocolate cookies from Heidi Swanson’s fabulous recipe.

One of my favorite chocolatiers here in Michigan is Grocer’s Daughter Chocolates in the little village of Empire in the Leelanau Peninsula:

They use organic chocolate and locally grown ingredients whenever possible. Their sea-salt caramels made with locally-collected honey are absolutely out of this world.

Dark Chocolate is much more healthy for you than milk chocolate. My favorite indulgence is Ritter Sport Dark Hazelnut Chocolate. It’s yummy and good for you!

Mmmm, hi blog sistah! My vote is for Dagoba, delicious organic choco in delightful flavors. Also LOVE the Endangered Species (I think that’s the name) chocolate. Their dark bars are so creamy and rich you’d swear there was some cow juice involved, but nope! And 10 % of their net profits go to eco organizations: http://www.chocolatebar.com/

I’ve been wanting to make those tiny cookies– how did they come out?

I am a chocoholic and pride myself on finding wonderful chocolate at bargain prices. One of my favorites is Aldi’s Choceur brand of dark chocolate (made in Austria)at $1.29 for 5 ozs. It’s one of the smoothest dark chocolates I’ve exerienced.
At Christmas time I lucked upon at Trader Joe’s some Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies for 99 cents a box. They are wonderful and I wish I had stocked up on them. They also had some Jamaican rum chocolate cakes for 99 cents a 14 oz. box. They are wonderful and I’m glad I stocked up on them. In the Caribbean, something like that would cost $16.00 at least and Trader’s Joe equalled them in quality.

Due to getting bigger size, I promised myself that I will go away from sweet foods, but every time I see dark Chocolates I tend to forget that I’m ob a diet.
