Fresh Morning: Please Say ‘Good Morning!’

My grandfather was a champion of manners, and one of the most basic ones he advocated was that the first thing you said to family members in the morning should be, “Good morning.”

Not “What’s for breakfast?” or “I’m late, gotta go.”  Just “Good morning.”

In Paris this past week, I thought of my grandfather as I noticed how the French say “bonjour” and, later in the day, “bonsoir” at the start of every conversation.  Such niceties are not part of our mainstream culture here in America–but shouldn’t they be?  Is there an easier way to orient yourself toward a positive, open day than to initiate contact with other human beings with a wish for goodness?

So – bonjour, buenos dias, bon giorno, boker tov….good morning!

Waking Up to Your Dreams (by Wendy Schuman)
Are you a frustrated dreamer? I know I am. I often wake up with fragments of scenes echoing in my mind that seem really meaningful--but then I leap out of bed, start my morning routine, and in seconds they're gone. I want to linger in that realm and tap into the guidance and insight rising from a wi

It seems a lot of these things–not just saying “good morning”–are going by the wayside. Here in North America we have come a long way in the last fifty or so years (major advancements in science, etc.), but in some ways we’ve failed big-time, and this is one of them. I fear for what we’ve become as a society.
