It’s Kentucky Derby weekend, and though I don’t know anything about horses, I am drawn to the celebratory traditions that surround the race. That means two things – fancy hats and mint juleps.
So in honor of my favorite herb (mint), and my favorite liquor (bourbon), here’s a mint julep recipe courtesy of Osage Gardens, the Colorado-based organic herb company.

MINT JULEP
Serves 1
12 leaves of fresh Osage mint
Shaved ice
4 tsp of super fine sugar
2 ½ ounces bourbon
2 tsp spring water
6 spring of fresh Osage mint
Place mint leaves, sugar and water in a 12 oz chilled tumbler.
Stir well until sugar has dissolved.
Fill tumbler with shaved ice and add
bourbon.
With a long handled spoon chop or mix mixture with the ice.
Stir until the cup is frosted.
Recipe can be chilled in freezer for up to
1/2 hour.
Garnish with mint springs and serve with a straw. Cheers!
