Fresh Morning: The 100 Milestone!

posted by hrossi

On Friday, we achieved an exciting milestone–100 Fresh Morning posts!  What began as an experiment to see if we could find tidbits, images, recipes, quotes, and ideas to help you (and ourselves) start our day with joy and purpose has become a full-fledged institution here on Fresh Living, and we’re grateful to be at this milestone.

The great thing about milestones is that they are opportunities to look both back and ahead.

Looking ahead, we want to know:  what do you want to see in future Fresh Mornings?  More breakfast recipes?  More inspiring quotes?  More sunrise photographs?  Let us know!

Looking back, here are some of my favorite Fresh Mornings from our collection of 100:

Waking Up to Your Dreams (by Wendy Schuman)
Are you a frustrated dreamer? I know I am. I often wake up with fragments of scenes echoing in my mind that seem really meaningful--but then I leap out of bed, start my morning routine, and in seconds they're gone. I want to linger in that realm and tap into the guidance and insight rising from a wi

Prayer for the Gulf from the 13 Grandmothers
Because I lack an engineering degree and don't understand why we can't just stop this thing NOW with a 10-ton wad of gum or giant boulder or massive Q-tip, I'll share more spiritual wisdom from elders. This is from the beautiful, amazing International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers--they each

Fresh Morning: Worry Away the Worry
"Worry is a prayer for something you don't want." - Sharon Gannon I love that. The other day someone expressed concern about my excessive worrying habit, and I've been contemplating on it ever since. Doing my best to actually contemplate, rather than worry. I've been on a renewed Gilmore G

How Did You (or a Loved One) Heal from Cancer?
In addition to co-writing this blog and working at Beliefnet full-time, I'm writing a book. It's about how I got through cancer five years ago with a combination of heavy-duty Western meds and all I knew from my personal and journalistic experience of yoga, meditation, non-religious spirituality, an

100 Milestone–I predict there will be many more milestones for Fresh Living. Most women and a percentage of men have an innate desire to be listened to which is totally different from being “heard”. We are all curious, funny, intuitive, intelligent, scared, saddened, full of joy, and at times clueless. I find Fresh Living to be a wonderful venue to express all these qualities –that I possess sometimes all within the same five minute period. I love the ideas from our “Leaders” Ms Rossi and Ms Reiss that help kick our body, mind, heart, and soul into gear. Today I am pondering nothing earth-shattering unless I make it so, but I am exploring the idea of becoming gray. I am already there although no one knows it –ok they aren’t sure anyway. I will get help from a professional hairdresser but I am shooting for the idea –”wow she looks prematurely gray!” rather than “she doesn’t have one gray hair…. uhhh sure…..?” If you love your grays, whites or silvers, I am looking to talk to you! Good Morning BTW

I was doing some maintenance with my flowers and realized that I can again use my garden as a metaphor for my soul–so in I came to write this. I did put screening up around the vegetable garden which is the “metaphor place” to reclaim it from being a salad bar for the local wildlife. But then I stopped–and days later–where am I–weeding and nurturing the front yard that everyone else sees. How superficial of me–while my “soul garden” remains choked with crab grass and lack of attention–but yet I know this–and also know that my soul within will not flourish either if I keep making excuses and don’t explore more than the surface. I do have rather a mess out front just now so I beg one more excuse to clean that up and then I am going straight back to my “Secret Soul Garden”. I will let you know what progress I make. :) 7f2df9
