The ‘Save Sarah Palin’s Knees’ Campaign

posted by vreiss

Oh how I love yoga people with a sense of humor. YogaDawg’s blog “My Itchy Third Eye” has a hilarious recent post about a photo of Sarah Palin in Runner’s World magazine, in which she is practicing Tree Pose incorrectly, in a way that is actually really dangerous for the knees. Yoga Dawg proposes a PAC to help save Sarah’s knees. Funny stuff for an afternoon giggle, mayhaps.

Sarah in the magazine, in Tree Pose:

Waking Up to Your Dreams (by Wendy Schuman)
Are you a frustrated dreamer? I know I am. I often wake up with fragments of scenes echoing in my mind that seem really meaningful--but then I leap out of bed, start my morning routine, and in seconds they're gone. I want to linger in that realm and tap into the guidance and insight rising from a wi

Hmmmm….or maybe Palin is just a frustrated ballerina, in which case she’s STILL doing it incorrectly.

You’ve got to be kidding…
You’re telling me if I stand on one foot, and lift my other like she did, I’ll ‘endanger’ my knees? Which one? Both?
And what about her hands over her head like that? She’s waaaaay off your rule.

Now that she’s out of office – in a resignation designed to salvage her reputation ahead of ethics reports and continuing circus antics – I feel less inclined to make fun of Sarah Palin. While she was campaigning and saying hateful things – while doing hateful things to the English language – she was fair game. But now, as she sinks into the muck created by her not-ready-for-prime-time silliness, I think she should be left alone. Sarah Palin’s biggest claim was that she was just like the rest of us, a claim she didn’t really believe as her ambition pushed her way out of any orbit supported by her experience or temperament. If anything, time has proven her right – with a vengeance. Sarah Palin is much more like the rest of us that it’s frankly embarrassing. If her candidacy and ambitions have melted in the spotlight, like a snowcone in Phoenix, maybe it’s because Palin was too much like the public she longed to govern that it made them want to puke. Kennedy made people see the stars. Nixon worked their fears. Palin just made us want to change the channel. Now that she has sunk back into obscurity, I say we let her get on with her life. No doubt, they’ll try to do a “New Nixon” facelift for Sarah Palin, and when they do, she’ll be fair game again. But until she puts herself out there again, I think she should be allowed to do her thing. Kick ‘em when they’re up, not when they’re down.

Bill Kilpatrick, I have news for you – Sarah Palin is not going anywhere! She has all the time in the world to spread her hate now, and that’s exactly what she wants to do. You’re a man who can spell and punctuate – so why is that you haven’t bothered to read? If you had bothered to read about Sarah Palin, you would know that you’ll be seeing her real soon.

@Your Name
“You’re telling me if I stand on one foot, and lift my other like she did, I’ll ‘endanger’ my knees? Which one? Both?”
Yes, if you practice that pose for a prolonged period of time.
The point here is that such yoga malpractices (even for someone who considers him/her-selves a maverick/rule breaker) can become a bad habit which can be detrimental if you practice yoga regularly.
But if you intend to quit practice altogether rather than follow the rules, or correct yourself, then that is a good option also.
“And what about her hands over her head like that? She’s waaaaay off your rule.”"
The actual ‘rule’ has your hands vertically over your head (either clasped or unclasped). Sarah Palin isn’t breaking any strict ‘rule’ here though.
The “non-knee endangering” positing depicted above is a version of the Tree Pose. From Wiki article on Tree Pose:
“High blood pressure can arise from raising the arms over the head head for a prolonged period of time. The arms can be left at chest height in prayer position for those in danger of high blood pressure.”

Sounds like the two people above Jody could use some yoga.
