Ode to Yoga-Inspired Jewelry

Monday November 23, 2009

Turquoise EarringsOh, Satya. I gush about this company pretty much every year (in a possibly not-so-subtle bid for Santa's attention), but they consistently make stuff that I feel so comfy in, so happy to wear. And it's relatively affordable--especially if you catch an in-person or online sample sale (there's actually one coming up: Sunday November 29th through end of day Tuesday December 1st).

So as you get started on your Black Friday shopping (is it seriously that time already?), you might want to take a look at Satya's "jewelry with meaning and beauty."

They've got healing gemstones, plus spiritual symbols of many traditions--from crosses to Ganeshes to stars of David to lotuses to hamsas. Plus earrings, necklaces, and the like that aren't spiritual, just also pretty, pretty.

Some days I feel like I need to suit up in this kind of jewelry--adding my homemade mala beads, a $10 glass ring I love, my grandmother's ring--not out of vanity so much as protection and reminder. I call it my yoga bling, not because it's all actually yoga-y, but because it helps remind me, in a very direct, material way of the non-material presence of spirit. Ironic, kinda, but true.
