Earth Hour 2010: Will You Turn Out?

posted by hrossi | 10:57am Friday March 26, 2010

Earth Hour 2010 is upon us – tomorrow, Saturday, 3/27 at 8:30 p.m., hundreds of millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour in hopes of spreading awareness of climate change…and saving about a gajillion kilowatt hours in electric power (it has to be a gajillion, right?)

Last year, Earth Hour happened in more than 80 countries, 4,100 cities. Las Vegas. Rio de Janeiro.  Paris.  The American Idol stage.  All dark–at least electronically speaking.  What an easy, powerful way to light the world with the power of human passion.

Will you participate?

Waking Up to Your Dreams (by Wendy Schuman)
Are you a frustrated dreamer? I know I am. I often wake up with fragments of scenes echoing in my mind that seem really meaningful--but then I leap out of bed, start my morning routine, and in seconds they're gone. I want to linger in that realm and tap into the guidance and insight rising from a wi

Prayer for the Gulf from the 13 Grandmothers
Because I lack an engineering degree and don't understand why we can't just stop this thing NOW with a 10-ton wad of gum or giant boulder or massive Q-tip, I'll share more spiritual wisdom from elders. This is from the beautiful, amazing International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers--they each

Fresh Morning: Worry Away the Worry
"Worry is a prayer for something you don't want." - Sharon Gannon I love that. The other day someone expressed concern about my excessive worrying habit, and I've been contemplating on it ever since. Doing my best to actually contemplate, rather than worry. I've been on a renewed Gilmore G

How Did You (or a Loved One) Heal from Cancer?
In addition to co-writing this blog and working at Beliefnet full-time, I'm writing a book. It's about how I got through cancer five years ago with a combination of heavy-duty Western meds and all I knew from my personal and journalistic experience of yoga, meditation, non-religious spirituality, an

I will be turning all my lights on and encouraging my neighbors to do so also. This may be the silliest thing in history. If not it’s right down there with the worst of intellectual puffery and dishonesty!!!!!!!

Will I participate? Oh, yes. But I will turn all my lights ON to demonstrate how deceitful this pseudo-cause is. There are some sinister intentions to what this watermelons(green on the outside, red on the inside) are doing, WE ARE NOT DESTROYING THE PLANET!!!it is a LIE, it has been proven. This is also a great time to drive around your neighborhood and find out how Liberal your neighbors are.

All of you who are saying that you will deliberately turn your lights on are kind of pathetic. If you don’t want to participate in this for whatever reason, fine, don’t, but its childish to turn around and proudly proclaim how you will turn ON all of your lights just to be spiteful.
“WE ARE NOT DESTROYING THE PLANET!!!it is a LIE, it has been proven. This is also a great time to drive around your neighborhood and find out how Liberal your neighbors are”
Anarie, I’m curious to know where it has been proven and who has proven it? As it seems the the majority of the world’s scientific experts on climate disagree with you I’d like to know with what credentials do you claim that they are wrong? Its so sad that you have to make this into a matter of being liberal or conservative, as if someone believing that humans can have an impact on the planet and that we should attempt to be responsible about it is just a liberal idea. Your whole comment here says more about your own political ideology and ignorance than who in your neighborhood has a dark house tomorrow evening will say about theirs.
