Obama Stages Gospel Music Tour. Seriously.

posted by dgilgoff | 9:19pm Sunday October 14, 2007

Bill Clinton may have been the nation’s first black president–and a Baptist, to boot–but his wife ain’t attempting anything like this to reach churchgoing African Americans. God-o-Meter has just learned Barack Obama’s campaign is staging a three-day tour gospel music tour to cap its “40 Days of Faith and Family” drive in South Carolina. The tour is called “Embrace the Change.” More from the Obama campaign:

Gospel stars include Grammy Award winners Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and Hezekiah Walker, Stellar Award winner Byron Cage, Dove Award winner Fred Hammond and the world’s most famous gospel quartet the Mighty Clouds of Joy, among others. The tour will visit Charleston, Greenwood and Columbia, South Carolina. Holly Davis Carter and her company, Relevé Entertainment, have spearheaded the creation of the events.
“This is another example of how Barack Obama is defying conventional wisdom about how politics is done and giving new meaning to meeting people at the grassroots level,” National Religious Affairs Director Joshua DuBois said. “This concert tour is going to bring new people into the political process and engage people of faith in an unprecedented way.”

If there’s another candidate on either ticket doing more to directly organize churches and religious communities, God-o-Meter would like to know about it.

On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. Howard Dean's Vindication
God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states: Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

A Post-Election Chat with Ralph Reed
Amid today's talk that Barack Obama has narrowed the God Gap, God-o-Meter checked in with Ralph Reed, who spearheaded religious outreach for George W. More Innacurate Faith Storylines From the Media
God-o-Meter is struck by the number of faith-based storylines the news media appear to have gotten dead wrong this year. MAJOR MAN–Thanks for the video. If others out there have shot or seen videos of candidates, especially if they’re discussing faith or values, please post them to the site. The right video just might change a candidate’s God-o-Meter reading!

I’m very excited about this wonderful development. I’m a fan of Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker, Byron Cage, Fred Hammond and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. I have all their CDs.
Thank God for brother Obama.

Amen… Amen & Amen! Mr. Obama is just what this country needs. So one who cares about the people. I pray for him daily on this Presidential journey that God blesses him and keeps him safe. If his wife can sacrafice her husband for this country we can have that same faith in him and make him our President.

You may want to re-consider your support for Senator Obama. After his comment against Pastor McClurkin’s statement regarding homosexuality as a sin, I have.

Believe me, no one other than Hucabe is even close to knowing what a christian shoud be. No real Christian should ever vote as a Democrat. They go against everything Jesus taught. Nuff said!
