Behind Huckabee's Christmas Ad

Tuesday December 18, 2007

Categories: Mike Huckabee

huckabeexmas.jpgGod-o-Meter wondered about the birth of Mike Huckabee's new ad celebrating the birth of Jesus, so it asked Huckabee senior advisor Charmaine Yoest. Her response:

"The ad was born when [campaign manager] Chip Saltsman and the Governor looked at the calendar and asked the question: "How do you campaign just before Christmas?" This ad is meant to be our acknowledgment that Christmas is more important than politics. Christmas isn't an event to managed, or spun -- the birth of Christ is something to be celebrated, no matter how close to a primary. Making that set of values explicit was how the ad was born."

Brilliant, thinks God-o-Meter. Your thoughts?

It doesn't seem a bit...blatant? Desperation personified. Maybe if he didn't try so hard.

THOMAS O--Your observation is kinda anti-conventional wisdom, which holds that Huckabee, at least when it comes to Christan/Christmas stuff, is Mr. Natural. Interesting you think he looks like he's trying too hard.

On Wed Morning Joe - MSNBC - Huck made a comment about politicians thinking there were God and acting like they were running for that position. It went right over Mika and Joe's head but I'll bet Romney squirmed when he heard it.

I think the Dems believe they can beat Romney with Clinton and if that ends up being the contest look for the Dems to expose Mormon belefs. Romney will get beaten badly and we will have a socialist in the White House.

So tell me if I'm the only one who reads it like this:

Look at me, I'm Mike Huckabee. I could be using this moment to say "Vote for me" like all of the other candidates are doing. But it's Christmas and we should all just say "Hooray for Jesus". And because I am saying "Hooray for Jesus" and not "Vote for me", you should vote for me.
