Huck’s Iowa Values Ad Airs in Michigan

posted by dgilgoff | 8:10pm Sunday January 13, 2008

Sure, his populist message could resonate in the Motor City. But The Politico’s Jonathan Martin reports that in heavily evangelical western Michigan, Mike Huckabee’s reprising a values ad from Iowa:

Mike Huckabee cut a new, Michigan-oriented ad last week that focused on kitchen table issues important to the state’s middle class. It also includes what has become his patented swipe at Mitt Romney at the end, so it has gotten some good earned media attention. But “Understanding” was not the Huck spot I saw twice this morning on Grand Rapids/Kalamazoo/Battle Creek TV. Rather, it was the final ad, “Our Values,” he aired in Iowa that emphasizes his Christian and pro-life credentials…

On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. Howard Dean's Vindication
God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states: Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

Huckabee playing identity politics again using God as a gimmick. He won’t put the ad in New Hampshire or in my part of Michigan (Detroit) were apparently God doesn’t help him get votes, but in western Michgian we see God resurrected once again to convince voters he’s “one of them.” Smart politics, deplorable Christian character. This is not the Christian role model I want for my children.

……I suppose it does sound like the same “deplorable Christian character” used by Paul in his journeys to preach the gospel in various geographical/cultural settings. Paul also tended to *use their language* in an effort to be heard. Deplorable? If you say so.
