Outspokenly against the war and out of step with his party on much else–his support for tying American currency to the gold standard or for abolishing the Department of Education, for example–Ron Paul is typically portrayed as the libertarian bomb thrower in the Republican presidential field. Culturally speaking, though, Paul is in lockstep with the party’s base: a conservative evangelical whose worldview is shaped by his faith. Paul doesn’t typically discuss his faith life, but did in his recent Beliefnet interview:
Ron Paul: As the years went on [my wife and I] became more annoyed with the liberalization of the Episcopal church and it didn’t fit us. None of our children stayed in the church…. We now go to a Baptist church.
God-o-Meter: Does that mean you now consider yourself an evangelical?
RP: Yeah, I do. But I’m not sure that every single person that uses those labels are absolutely uniform and that people know exactly what they mean… some evangelicals get a little bit annoyed because I’m not always preaching and saying, “I’m this, I’m this, and this.” I think my obligation is to reflect my beliefs in my life. I like the statement in the Bible that when you’re really in deep prayer you go to your closet. You don’t do it out on the streets and brag about it and say, “Look how holy I am.” If a person has true beliefs and is truly born again, it will be reflected in their life.
And though Paul said his faith influenced his pacifist streak, he also discussed how it shapes such orthodox conservative positions as his opposition to abortion rights and support for religion in the public square:
A few years ago, you wrote a Christmastime essay that said there was a war on religion in this country: “The ultimate goal of the anti-religious elites is to transform America into a completely secular nation… biased against Christianity.” Do you still see that kind of assault happening?
I think it’s systemic… in court cases that say you can’t say a prayer at a football game. Where is it in the Constitution that said that somebody can prohibit prayer? The First Amendment says the federal government shouldn’t write any laws regarding freedom of speech and prayer. And if it becomes offensive… then the local people have to deal with it…. it should be the school board or somebody. But there can’t ever be under the First Amendment a prohibition. The Founders never thought that to be the case…. It’s systemic, especially the aggressive atheists who are always going to courts, to say that their attitude because they’re atheists means a prohibition against expression of Christianity and that of course didn’t happen 30 or 40 or 50 years ago. It’s much more so today because there are some people aggressively trying to undermine Christianity.
All of which makes God-o-Meter wonder: how out of step is a pro-life evangelical conservative who’s dark on the Iraq war with the rest of the GOP’s evangelical base? With Beliefnet’s new poll of evangelicals showing that “ending the Iraq war” is seen as more important than “winning the Iraq war” maybe less than he’s given credit for.

Please get the word out on our brother, Congressman Paul. The media will tell the masses nothing, and our country really needs this man. God never wanted us to be the slaves we are today. Our Father always speaks of our freedom and so does Congressman Paul. Help wake America up, before it really is too late.

It’s about time that Christians wake up to the best candidate running for office. True Christianity speaks through actions, not words. Ron is a wonderful man and a perfect example of how the majority of this country feels about modesty, discretion, compassion and understanding. -And he has a great brain to match!

Help us get the wisdom of God in truth in government out to central Illinois. Our nation, because of sin has turned its back on the thrice holy God of scripture, seeking to do its own will and not heeding the voice of the Law, the prophets and apostles. May the Lord richly bless Ron and Carol Paul!
They are exemplary Christians in whom the Spirit of the Lord reigns within their hearts and in whom is made manifest in their actions and not in self-serving public acts of false holiness.
America has a RARE opportunity to elect a statesman of sincere faith in the King of Kings with a long track record of Biblically based guiding principles.

Why I support Ron Paul
By: Jack Dawsey
As a Republican of 40-plus years, resigning the Party in 2004 after seeing extremists’ take over the beloved works of Lincoln and Taft, my decision was easy.
In 2004, it was my opinion the political hackers in the Republican Party would mount a major attack on the U.S. Constitution, and possibly bankrupt this nation. I was persuaded then, that these radicals (in collaboration with the apostate Democrat Party), would explode the Federal Budget and blow it off the radar screen. Also in 2004, I believed the two-party system had become, (in essence), a one-party juggernaut that was controlled by the Financial Industrial Complex. Today, it seems my greatest fears are realized.
Consider for example the real purchasing power of the American dollar. Consider also how democrat and republican policies have taken this country to war without the U.S. Congress officially declaring war. [By the way, I'm not so much anti-war as I am anti-congress for giving authority to the President to do whatsoever he pleases and when it pleases him. It’s appalling to see how the Congress abdicated its responsibility to declare war and mobilize the nation]. No, it was easier for them to duck and say “Let George do it…” leaving them in the Pontius Pilate posture to criticize when the war went south and driving the American economy off its’ rails. It’s appalling also to see their disdain toward our most sacred document. And doubtless, their joint policies have indebted our children and grand-children to foreign banks. And just think, according to some newspaper account, many of these banks may be of communist’s origin. Now isn’t that an oxymoron?
Republican and Democrat alike have turned the Congress of the United States on its head by allowing national and foreign lobbyist’s to roam the hallowed Halls of Congress intimidating, in my opinion, the few honorable representatives left to serve. In short, their policies have made our nation worse off and less safe. Oh yea! I know the standard rebuttal. “The President has kept us safe because we haven’t had an attack on American soil since 9-11…” In response to that, I ask “Is there not more than one way to attack a nation?” Consider the value of the American dollar, your IRA and your 401. How much is the worth of your dollar at your local gas pump or local supermarket? Isn’t national and personal bankruptcy an attack? Consider also our nation’s open borders and ports. Are they not vulnerable, still? Who knows what long range war-planning materials and supplies are coming through those wide-open gates?
And finally without pontificating, it seems to this writer that the current crop of Presidential candidates is a rehash of the past. Frankly, I exclude all of them except Dr. Ron Paul, and then only if he mounts a 3rd Party challenge. In my opinion he should mount that challenge. And frankly, should he lose in his effort, he is to be encouraged because his personal “moral base” is moored in the U.S. Constitution. And oh by the way, I make a distinction in the term “political moral base” as oppose to the “religious moral base” of the evangelicals. I’m not anti-religion, but the nation is multi-cultured. It’s imperative, I think, for the new President be anchored in the Constitution and not predisposed to a personal interpretation of the Bible. Dr. Ron Paul is tethered to the constitution.

Dr. Paul is a humble man of proven integrity. How many other Washington politicians refuse to accept a very fat pension they are eligible to collect because they believe such perks are an abuse of power? He is the best U.S. presidential candidate since the 1800s.

He wants us to stop wasting our money overseas and start helping our own people here at home. We need a statesman like this who tells the truth, even when it’s unpopular.

What is it about Ron Paul that the Establishment finds so disturbing? This is a man who perhaps personifies Christian character and integrity, American patriotism, and family values more than any other public figure. Ron Paul is a committed family man whose marriage to Carol has lasted for more than 50 years. He is a lover of families and children. As an OB/GYN physician, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies into this world. His life demonstrates a commitment to life and marriage.
Furthermore, Ron Paul’s devotion to Christ is very personal and deep. Unlike many politicians (especially in the Republican Party), Ron Paul does not wear his religion on his sleeve. He doesn’t need to. Anyone who knows him knows his faith is exhibited on a daily basis. His life and family are testaments to his Christian faith.
Beyond that, Ron Paul’s record in Congress is so unblemished, so honest, so full of integrity that it is difficult to describe. This is a man who actually takes his oath to the Constitution (an oath every congressman, senator, and President also takes–but then ignores) seriously. So much so that he has never voted to raise taxes, never voted for an unbalanced budget, never voted for a congressional pay raise, never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership, and never voted to increase the power of the executive branch of the federal government.
In addition, Ron Paul has never taken a government-paid junket. Even though he is a 10-term congressman, he is not accepting a government pension. He also returns a portion of his office budget every year to the taxpayers. No wonder Ron Paul was declared to be the “Taxpayer’s Best Friend.”
Now, how in the name of common sense can a man such as Ron Paul be hated? Maybe it is because he is a man of integrity and honesty. Remember, our Lord said that men who love darkness hate the light. And if there is a word that describes the Establishment in America today, it is DARKNESS.
Name it: the establishment Democrat and Republican Parties, the establishment media, the establishment financial institutions, and even the establishment churches all seem to be run by people who exude the power of darkness. It should not surprise us, therefore, when a man arises who personifies the light of integrity and honesty, that the powers that be should hate him–and hate Ron Paul they do.
Conservative Republican Ron Paul is loathed as much by members of his own party as he is by liberal Democrats . Even though he is the epitome of a Christian gentleman, Ron Paul is despised by Christians and pastors as much as he is by pagans–maybe more. The media despises him–especially Fox News. The so-called conservative Fox News celebrity Sean Hannity practically goes ballistic at the mere mention of Dr. Paul’s name.
Ron Paul has been categorized with the Ku Klux Klan, brothel owners, and Skin Heads. He has been called practically every name in the book. Conservatives and liberals alike rail against Dr. Paul in a manner never seen before in modern politics. Again, why does the Establishment hate him so much? I’ll tell you why.
The Establishment hates Ron Paul because his honesty and integrity expose the rest of them for the moral reprobates they are. Their own conscience cannot bear the sight of him. His very presence condemns them. Their personal greed and ambition cringe at the very thought of Ron Paul. If Dr. Paul became President, the Gig would be up! It would be Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday at Tombstone all over again. They know it, and they will fight like mad to keep their corrupt stranglehold on American politics.
Another reason the Establishment hates Ron Paul is because he is a true American–and there are not very many true Americans left in Washington, D.C., these days. You see, Ron Paul has read and studied American history. He understands constitutional government. He knows what real money is–and is not. As historian and author Thomas DiLorenzo said, Ron Paul is a modern-day Thomas Jefferson. (See his column here )
Unfortunately, most of what we have in Washington, D.C., these days (in both parties) is a bunch of internationalists who cannot see past their own selfish interests. They are consumed with greed and power. They are slaves to Big Business and special interest groups. They are petty, shallow hirelings who care nothing for constitutional government, the principles of liberty, or the American people. To them, Ron Paul represents everything they hate: limited government, freedom, selflessness, humility, and integrity.
Furthermore, Ron Paul is not interested in creating a world empire. Neither is he a warmonger. He would squash the burgeoning New World Order in its tracks–and the globalists ensconced in Washington and New York City know it.
There is only one Presidential candidate who would bring a modern-day revolution to Washington, D.C., and it is not Barack Obama or Mike Huckabee. It is Ron Paul. Obama and Huckabee–along with the rest of the Democrat and Republican contenders–are only more of the same. The same Nanny State, the same unconstitutional laws and regulations, the same advances toward global government, the same attacks against individual liberties, the same arrogance, the same hypocrisy, the same social programs, the same back-breaking taxes, the same jack-booted federal police tactics, the same IRS, the same lobbyists, and the same corrupt Washington politics.
That the Establishment would hate Ron Paul should not surprise us. It does not even surprise me that many pastors and Christians despise Ron Paul. (After all, many of them still worship at the altar of George W. Bush.) What is yet to be seen is, How will the American people receive him? His strong showing in Iowa surprised most of the “experts.” I believe he will do even better in New Hampshire today. How Dr. Paul’s campaign fares in future primaries is still to be seen.
Should Ron Paul fail in his bid to become the Republican Party’s Presidential nominee, I believe it is critically important that he continue his bid as a Third Party candidate. His campaign is more than a campaign–it is a movement. People by the thousands and money by the millions is pouring in, and it will continue to pour in all the way to the general election. It is essential that Ron Paul stays in the race all the way to November.
Remember, when Abraham Lincoln won in 1860, there were four strong Presidential candidates, and Lincoln won with just 39% of the popular vote. With New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg seriously considering an independent bid for the White House, and if Ron Paul, likewise, runs as a Third Party candidate, 2008 could see another race with four strong Presidential contenders. In such a case, anything is possible–including a Ron Paul victory.
The fact is, Ron Paul does not need the support of the Establishment to win. With God’s help–and with the help of millions of fed-up and tireless average Joes–anything is possible. Anything.
Here is another thing: the fact that the Establishment hates Ron Paul so much must mean that there is ample reason for ordinary people like you and me to love him!

Ron Paul is a decent humble man, a fine example of how faith can ennoble an individual. Unfortunately, Americans no longer deserve such an honest man to lead them, as the upcoming primaries will finally prove. The media, the politicians and the powerful who rule this country have seen to that, and most of the people remain willingly blind to their peril. It is the eleventh hour and very nearly too late, and our last reward for our folly will be to witness the demise of a once great Republic. God save our children.

How long he has been married and how many babies he has delivered and how religious he is are all very unimportant. He believes in my right to be an unmarried atheist who avoids children and my right to keep and spend the wealth I create. So he has my vote since he’s the only candidate who thinks that way. In politics, only liberty and property are important. It is wrong to put anything above those values. It is wrong to put God above liberty and property.

A real man of faith wears his faith in his heart (Ron) not on his sleeve (Huck). This is the true difference between Ron, and the snake-oil salesman Huckabee.

I am not a Christian, but I am a spritual man. I have a deep respect for the peacefull teachings of Jesus and others, and good friendships with good Christians.
I can’t agree more with these post about Ron Paul! This man is honest, faithful to his oath of office, and LIVES his Christian faith rather than forcing it on every one he encounters.
Furthermore, he recognises that good people come in many shapes, sizes and colors, and that the constitution was designed to allow all good people the freedom to be who they are without stepping on each other’s toes.
Ron understands that our freedom to choose our beliefs, our faith, is OURs to choose, not the State’s. I believe that most people are mostly good most of the time, and that our relationship with our creator is a personal one, and not a sword and sheild to be used against others.
When I heard Huckleberry say he would Bomb the muslims, I thought, what kind of Christian would say that? That is NOT turning the other cheek. That is not loving your enemy.
I also have a slightly different take on “Thou shalt not take the Lord’s name in vain.” When I think of this, I think of people who assume the mantle of righteousness and point a finger of damnation at others. Not swearing. Swearing is wrong, but between you and God. It’s a personal thing. Breaking the commandment as I see it is an attack on others in God’s name, and therefore blasphemous, and a direct violation of that commandment.
I have never heard Ron Paul take the Lord’s name, in vainity or any other dangerous manner.
Go Ron Paul!

I am a non-thiest who supports Ron Paul. Why? Because he defend sthe right to believe or not to believe, not the imporsition of a fatih 9or lack of one).
This respect of individual liberty is the very definiton of brotherhood and it terrifies those who like to rule by dividng people.
The other candidates fear Ron Paul because he shows (not by popinting out but by how he behaves) that others are would be emperors with no clothes.
One does not need to agree with all of his opinions to reciognize that he is a good ,decent and honest man. And all the other candidates are so far from that.
I beleive that Ron Paul can heal America in many ways.

How much is our liberty worth? Is it worth a few emails or a few hundred emails.
Please email Fox news, Cnn, Msnbc, all these networks that so shamelessly avoid even stating Ron Paul’s Name. Tell them you will not support their advertisers nor watch their programs if they continue to blacklist.
Remember to pray for Ron Paul and visualize him taking the presidential oath manifesting this into being as you do so.
I am soooo encouraged by the movement and support for Ron Paul.

Ron understands that freedom of religion is very important, and keeping it out of the government is vital. When religion influences government, then government influences religion, so there are always a number of unintended consequences.
Huckabee on the other hand, believes in the Iranian-style religious leadership that would oversee the secular government. Iran does have a democracy, but at the top are a group of 9 old men called the Islamic Revolutionary Council that tell the democratic government what to do.
If Huckabee ever wins, Americans had better expect something similar, and they won’t like it.

Ron is not a pacifist, he’s intelligent and righteous. Do a little research on “just-war” theory. Ron Paul voted in favor of sending our forces to go after the terrorists who actually attacked us on 9/11. He was wise enough to resist the pressure by the Bush-Cheney administration to go after a different regime based on false “intelligence”.

I hardly think that you could smear a candidate by calling him a pacifist. This isn’t a theory I personally identify with, but I would much rather live next to a pacifist than someone who believes violence is justified under whatever circumstance they deem appropriate. That is to say, I would vote for Jesus, MLK, or Gandhi over George Bush.
