A Muslim Case Against Ron Paul

Friday February 15, 2008

Categories: Ron Paul
God-o-Meter hadn't realized there was a groundswell of Muslim support for Ron Paul, but that is the case, according to Ali Eteraz at altmuslim.com. I have noticed that the amount of fervor that Ron Paul has inspired among Muslims has...

Let me make sure I understand correctly - you are knocking Dr. Paul down a point because another religious group other then Christians also like his ideas? This does not seem to portray a very Christan spirit. Using your logic, does Mr. McCain then gain points for his view to 'bomb, bomb, bomb Iran'?

I think if I were an Islamic American, I would be concerned with the prevailing anti-Islamic spirit in America. They might be worried that one day they will all be rounded up and put in concentration camps.

So belief in liberty and the constitution makes you an ultra-rightwinger these days? Are you all catholics at Beliefnet because alternate beliefs like Protestantism (is that a word?) was fostered in this country through FREEDOM. And when did Paul ever criticize Israel? Every time someone wants to cut them off from the federal titty it's called anti-semitism. Of course in a Ron Paul smear campaign (that's what this obviously is) there's always the re-hashed crap of the newsletters. Amazingly no one ever thinks to ask afro-americans or people of hispanic descent THAT ACTUALLY KNOW HIM if they truly believe he's a racist. Ron Paul has many policies and ideas well thought out, detailed, and documented but do his critics shoot them down with facts and figures? No because trying to fight with facts would only bring more light to the hypocritical nature of American policies and politics today. Instead you choose to feed us the same half-truths and outright garbage the rest of big media is shoveling. Web pages like this only perpetuate the impression that Christian conservatives are intolerant and closed-minded. I don't think Jesus (another individual persecuted for shoving ugly truth in the faces of the powers that be) was pushing that sort of agenda.

My comment is addressed toward the labels "secularist" and "theocrat," and how they are a faulty when looking at Ron Paul's Presidential candidacy.

Congressman Paul's positions on many issues are easy to find on the web, including his thoughts on religion issues like abortion and religion in general.

In his "Statement of Faith" on his campaign website he writes: "I have never been one who is comfortable talking about my faith in the political arena. In fact, the pandering that typically occurs in the election season I find to be distasteful. But for those who have asked, I freely confess that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior, and that I seek His guidance in all that I do. I know, as you do, that our freedoms come not from man, but from God. My record of public service reflects my reverence for the Natural Rights with which we have been endowed by a loving Creator."

So on the "theocrat" scale as defined on this site, such as "Discusses his/her faith and how it would influence his/her presidency publicly or in an advertisement ..." he'd rank pretty high.

But at the same time, his positions show that he is guided by his view of the constitution first, and not his personal faith. It's hard to imagine a "theocrat" running for Federal office saying:

"Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided, but not because the Supreme Court presumed to legalize abortion rather than ban it. Roe was wrongly decided because abortion simply is not a constitutional issue. There is not a word in the text of that document, nor in any of its amendments, that conceivably addresses abortion. There is no serious argument based on the text of the Constitution itself that a federal "right to abortion" exists. The federalization of abortion law is based not on constitutional principles, but rather on a social and political construct created out of thin air by the Roe court ... The notion that an all-powerful, centralized state should provide monolithic solutions to the ethical dilemmas of our times is not only misguided, but also contrary to our Constitution. Remember, federalism was established to allow decentralized, local decision- making by states. Today, however, we seek a federal solution for every perceived societal ill, ignoring constitutional limits on federal power. The result is a federal state that increasingly makes all-or-nothing decisions that alienate large segments of the population. "

Since Paul is running for federal and not state office, it seems that his views are more aligned with "Says his/her faith doesn't inform policy positions."

I'd be interested in seeing that specific criteria is used in generating the scores. On this same website, I see that Fred Thompson God-o-Meter rating is "3", mainly because of his statement "Christ didn't tell us to go to the government and pass a bill to get some of these social problems dealt with. He told us to do it," Thompson responded. "The government has its role, but we need to keep firmly in mind the role of the government, and the role of us as individuals and as Christians on the other."

I fail to see the difference between that and Paul's overall position, currently ranked as a "7."

And at the same time Brownback is ranked only a "5" vs. Paul's "7"? It seems to me that not only are the labels faulty, but the scoring is also inconsistent.

As "A Saudi" stated, this support isn't due from just Ron being a religous man. Actually, Ron doesn't have a desire to impose his religous beliefs on a federal level.

I think its the general message of freedom and the end of arrogant foreign policy that has united such a diverse group of people....without having to pander.

Liberty is a powerful message.

If you believe in the constitution.
If you believe in freedom of religious.
Than doesn't matter if you are Christan or Muslims.
If Ron Paul foreign policy positions can stop the war and stop further lost of life. It is a good policy.
I do not see anything wrong with Muslim supporting for Ron Paul to stop the war...

I think Ron Paul is a great man. My dad told me I should vote for him. I am having second thoughts, however. Also, I am wondering why you don't have Alan Keyes on your List?

Despite his daughter's troubles Keyes has to be the best that there is. He believes in the same grassroots principles as Ron Paul but he even takes it a step further. He believes in returning this country back to its normal state.

In fact, I wish I would have known more about Alan Keyes even before I first voted for George Bush II.

I think more people should be voting for Alan Keyes. He is determined to get in and he should have every right to become president because he wants America Back!

VOTE RON PAUL !!!!!
He is a true American, He is a person not blood related to the rest of the jerks ruining our country currently. He appeals to everyone since he tells the truth, tells the story that needs to be told and holds no punches back when it comes to exposing the communist element that really is controlling America.

I have never cared before so much about whether I voted Democrat or Republican and this time around when I wanted to make a stand in a particular group I find myself deciding to vote Independent. I guess it is in my blood to be independent as my founding ancestors I find voted WHIG when the Dems and Repubs were planningto destroy America with the civilwar. (Hey, they did destroy it to - just like the Dems and Repubs of today) - Nothing was solved, slavery just moved to the next impoverished country and continues today.

VOTE RON PAUL !!!!
