Conservative Christians for Obama?

Thursday February 14, 2008

Categories: Barack Obama
The Christian video site GodTube today released a poll suggesting Barack Obama appeals to more conservative Christians than John McCain. Hillary Clinton comes out ahead of McCain, too. A spokesperson for GodTube told God-o-Meter that the poll was open to...

Most people that are supporting Obama don't even know what he believes or what his positions are. They are just voting for him because he is nice and well spoken.

Most people who think that other people don't know what Obama's positions are haven't checked out the documentation of his positions and are projecting their own laziness onto others.

Can't see how they can reconcile a pro-life position with Obama's support of infanticide for babies who survive an abortion.

The rumors of Obama's religion are heading in the wrong direction. His mother according to his own website was an Atheist! There is more influence from that direction than anyone has considered in public. It would seem that the church that Obama attends is to appease his wife and to give his children religious direction. Though Obama's father and stepfather were both Muslim and living the better part of his childhood in Indonesia, the world's mose Muslim country, had to have had some affect. But I reiterate that his mother's influence was probably the greatest.

Obama is the Godsent to us at these unstable times. We neared too close to George Orwell's "1984" story. If anybody noticed, Obama said numerous times in his speeches: "This is a movement from the bottom up, for major changes in American internal and external policies. We are not to continue to play the Washington's game, we are to end it and to restore rights and liberties to ALL Americans". (I conveyed it my own words, but with the original meaning). In other words, he quoted Vladimir Lenin: when he (Lenin) said about that "bottom doesn't want and top can't live the old way", (although, Obama didn't mean to quote him). Do you know, why Soviet Union collapsed?
Reagan? NO!!!! SU came to this because of authorities there had lost their connections to people, to the realty. They had pushed them to the corner and left no ways to get out of there. That is exactly what's going on in the US now. US needs radical "perestroika" and Obama is the Man For The Job !!!

I don't know who conducted that poll but it couldn't have been a true Christian. A Christian is one who follows Christ, imitates Christ, and holds the beliefs of Christ. Would that be Obama? I don't believe so. If one were to do their homework you would find a strong Muslim and Atheist influence in Obama's life. Would Christians overwhelmingly support that? No way. And it's amazing how the media and those dazzled by flash-in-the-pan tactics overlook something so vital. And perestroika? Instead of trying to hail this mn as the new Kennedy, be honest and call him Gorbachev incarnate. Can anyone say coup? Cause that's what happened and the Soviet Union broke up. Marxism, socialist governments will never work here. Wake up and find a candidate with some semblence of substance. This poll is nothing more than a ploy aimed at weak minded church-goers to sway them to vote for a man who is highly deceptive and is far left from the teachings of the bible. We must remember that God holds us accountable for our choices, and our vote is a choice.

You can be raised in any manner and still be a Christian. Example: Paul the Apostle was raised Jewish, he became a pretty strong Christian. Christianity can be for anyone, no matter what their parents believe. I believe Obama is the best choice for our country because he will put the focus back on the people. He will focus on poverty, something God cares deeply about. He will focus on the Enviornment which God has made us stewards for. He will keep church and state seperated; which is a wonderful Christian value (Even though many fundamental Christians do not realize this). As a Christian I will continue to pray for Obama and I hope that he will be chosen to lead this country. The Bush administration has tarnished evangelicals around the world and it is time that the Christians don't just vote republican because our parents did, we vote for what is right. Thanks Obama!

I am so proud of Belief Net and I'm so happy to see that readers are finally coming to an understanding of which candidate is truly the most Christian among the two; McCain or Obama.

Senator Obama is a honest and TRUE Christian who I fully support. It's sad to me that Senator McCain doesn't even attend church; except for a rare engagement in which the press is involved.

I absolutely am appalled at Mr. McCain's stances when it comes to RELIGION.

Thank you so much Belief.net!

I am apppalled at the number of lazy Christians who are ignorant of the Word of GOD and HIS family. Jesus love was for all people. The Word of GOD says "all who believe with their heart and confess with their mouth Jesus CHRIST as their LORD and SAVIOUR will be saved." Salvation does not depend on human opinion. Believe in CHRIST JESUS and enjoy your relationship with Him.Judge not Lest ye be judged yourself.

Hi everyone

I just wanted to give all you Christians something to think about. I hope that you will all seriously take the time to really consider this.

In supporting Obama, I don't care how any of you rationalize it, you are not and I repeat NOT standing on the side of God.(Before you get upset let me explain why that is)

First we all have to come to the understanding that the bible is God's word.

Second we need to believe that it is vitally important to stand on God's side. Read Ezekiel 22:30-31
Here God explains that he looked for someone to build the wall of righteousness that guards the land and stand in the gap so that he would not have to destroy the land. Think about Sodom and Gomorrah.

Now let's discuss standing on God's side.

1) Abortion: God said that he knew you before the womb. He also said it is against his will to kill.(6th commandment). Even in the case of rape, I don't believe it is okay to take the life of the fetus. We need to use those unfortunate circumstances that test our faith, to show that we believe that God is in control and that he will make good out of the worst situations. Trust in him.

2) Marriage: Marriage was designed by God between a man and a woman. This is the reason he did not make two Adams in the garden. He is a God of order and has placed opposite gender for his specific purpose. (read Romans 1:18 - 32)Allowing gay marriage is against God's will.

3)According to Obama, (Let's spread the wealth around). Government taxes are to be paid because all forms of authority are established by God and he said that we should pay taxes because government workers have to be paid.(Romans 13: 1-7)Taxes should not be used to spread the wealth around. According to (2Thessalonians 3:6-14) Paul spcifically stated that those unwilling to work will not get to eat. He commanded such people to stop meddling in other people's business and work to earn their own living. He did however encourage those who are working to never get tired of doing good. We should give freely to the less fortunate but it is not the government's responsibility to take from one group who is working to earn their living and give it to someone else. If you believe that the rich should give you the money they earn then you are breaking the 10th commandment, Do not covet your neighbor's belongings.

4) War in Iraq. God has blessed many wars throughout the Bible, and although I believe that it was the wrong war to fight, we are already there. Now we need to do the right thing. We cannot abandond the Iraqi people right as they are about to make a difference and alow their country to slip into something far worst. Iran could invaded this country with their radical ideology and we would have to go back there again in a far worst situation than before.

The important thing is that God does not change his mind. He is the same today as he is tomorrow. We need to choose a side and that side should be to follow God.
Abortions, gay marriages, spreading the wealth around is not God's side. If you are not on his side on the issues, don't fool yourself, you are against him. To me, Obama is a great speaker and he says the things the world wants to hear, but remember thw world and God are in total opposition so choose wisely and I hope this will convict your heart to stand on God's side.

Thanks for listening and read those verses.

Mike Beth:

Am I to then penalize you as a Christian if I found out that you have had racist/segregationist family members and friends while you were growing up (and chances are you did/do). What does it say about someone who questions another's christianity in such a way. It says more about you Mike and that is why people are rejecting the Republican party and their so-called 'right-wing conservatism'. MOST OF THEM ARE HYPOCRITES and use issues like abortion and gay-rights to get votes and incite hatred. Yes, abortion is wrong and no I do not support same-sex marriage, but I will never take the road (attitude) of most republicans, and I do question their motives. No wonder people see us Christians as being intolerant and hateful, because of people like you Mike. Do you honestly think that you reflect Christ??? Do you? If you do, you need more help than I think. May God have mercy on us all.

Joanna T
October 26, 2008 10:06 PM

tell me, which Jesus are you following Mike? You see, the Jesus i know loved the poor and acosted the arrogant. Have you read the beatitudes or did you forget that part? what about Acts?
from Acts 2:44-47
44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Read the last verse Mike. It is selfish hate-filled attitudes like yours that are turning people away from Jesus. The Republican party has NOTHING to do with salvation or the path we are to follow as disciples of Jesus. I am tired or republicans hijacking Christianity. My Lord did not die for this!

Joanna T
October 26, 2008 10:12 PM

one more thing. It is the blood of the lamb that makes me on the side of God-NOT your republican ideology. It is Jesus who died on the cross for MY sins and YOURS that makes me God's child, not George Bush or John McCain. It is the prescious blood of my savior who makes me a christian-not your pick and choose version of His word.

I can't tell you how refreshing it is to find some Christian's exchanging ideas about this campaign that express love, tolerance, and humility as our Lord Jesus did. I too am tired of hearing words of hatred, fear and judgement directed about Obama in the name of God.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was a humble man who loved all people. He forgave his abusers, the crowd chanting for him to be put to death, a thief and a murderer even as he hung on the cross. His disciples gave up all their worldly possessions to follow him. He stated in the Bible that it would be easier to fit a camel through the eye of a needle than it would be for a rich man to reach the kingdom of heaven. I hear countless Christians complaining about paying a little more in taxes.

Yet here we are, 8 days to the election, and all I hear from fellow Christians are the kinds of things that would have made our Lord weep. And all this vitriol in the name of our Lord. It saddens me deeply. Are you prepared to answer to God for all the souls that will be lost because of this intolerance? I guarantee you that there are many who will not come to know the our Saviour because of this vitriol.

Mike I will keep you in my prayers along with the countless other Christians who have forgotten the generosity, peace-loving, gentleness, forgiving and accepting nature of our Lord. Trust in his power and let the homosexuals, people who have gotten abortions, and other transgressors answer to him in their hour of judgement.

Being a Christian, I am amazed at how the liberal media, the sensationalism and class warfare of the democratic party have blinded the American people, and it seems allot of my own brothers and sisters in Christ as well..

We, the United States ,and Christians, have always protected the interests of Israel.

Check the link above ,and when you take that in conjunction with ALL of the people from Obama's past, who are extremely antisemitic, radical and prefer socialist/communist government, I cant see how ANYONE isn't SCARED that this guy has a good possibility of winning this election!

Let me list some names for you, if you choose to , please do your own research on them and their relation to Obama.

Saul Olinski
William Ayers
Rashid Khalidi
Jeremiah Wright
Father Flagger

there is a small taste, and there is more..

now, please ask yourself.

Would a TRUE CHRISTIAN keep friends with a group of people like this??

What if Barack Obama has lied about his Christian beliefs in order to with this presidency??
.
His entire life is rooted by an atheist mother, a muslim father, a muslim stepfather, years in a muslim school in Indonesia, and 20 years in a black liberation theology church.(Jeremiah Wright)

Are we really to believe that he has recently turned his life over to Christ, because he now attends a baptist church ??

Where is the mention of his repentance and turning from false religions ??
Where does he denounce the black liberation church he spent 20 years in ?
Where does he denounce his former muslim teachings ?

Do you really believe he is a TRUE CHRISTIAN ??

Im sorry but I am terrified in my thoughts that a veil has been placed over the eyes of the American people..

In the end, God chooses the leaders of this world...and for His purposes.
So in the end the ultimate result will be the Will of God, and I am ok with that. (Praise God!)

But I am scared for America....

I voted McCain today btw.
While hes never pretended to be perfect....(who is, Obama ??)
Hes an honest man, who has given his life and three generations of his family (ancestry) for this country we love.
he also loves Israel.

Wake up-

While I do respect Obama for his success in his marriage and his beautiful children, I also disagree , and am a little offended, that you feel any scrutiny of Mr Obama, deserves classification of KKK propaganda.....???

Race should NEVER be an issue.

The great Dr. martin Luther King Jr implored us to NOT judge a person based by their color, but on the content of their character.

We have little to no information regarding scrutiny of Mr Obama.

And unfortunately..the propaganda of the media, has caused dissension among the American people.

Wake up reiterated that point. It seems he feels that any scrutiny of Mr Obama and past associations should be branded with the HATEFULL term of KKK propaganda.

The media has even done a good job of pre-empting the message that if Obama DOES lose...it will be because Americans are racists..

It will have nothing to do with his policies, lack of experience, or past radical associations....

Think about this for a minute..
With Mr Obama's past radical associations, he would not even qualify for a job with the FBI where top secret security clearance is required.

Are we, as Americans, prepared to give someone the highest seat of authority in the WORLD, who wouldn't even pass the basic background screening to be an FBI agent??

His past radical associates, and past cocaine and drug use would leave him unable to pass the FBI test for security clearance.

Yet we are about to vote this man to highest position of authority in the world......

The media has given Mr Obama a free pass with no scrutiny, and the American people have bought it hook line and sinker..

I DO suggest people "Wake up"

I cannot fathom how it is possible to be a Christian and yet refuse to vote for someone because of his color or past associations. Surely Christ must be frowning to learn how some invoke Christianity yet act like Pharises. Did Christ himself not be seen with prostitutes, persecutors etc? Did he at any time condemn those who had sinned? In my readings of The Bible ...it seems that I remember to ..go and sin no more.

In this campaign we are seeing Christians? constantly attempting to character asssinate the leader of one party and to twist that party's platform. In other words instead of spreading the Gospel message...faith (as a background) is used to sow mistruths and even to foment violence.

This Christian will be voting Democrat. Christian values are more evident there.

Pete
October 29, 2008 3:23 PM

I find it hard to believe that anyone who calls themself a follower of
Christ is willing to follow someone for whom the Judeo Christian values
that define us in the Christian Church have no evidence in his belief
structure. Is the economy & the war more important to us than upholding
the sanctity of a human life, constitutional rights, the future of the
family, the sanctity of marriage? Seek first his righteousness is something we seem to have set aside for our creature comforts. It appears that voting our values is very selective. OH, Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

To answer to Claude, and the statement that democrats are more Christian values there...

Dems are for abortion - the killing of innocent lives. Psalm 139:13-16 shows that the Lord knows us even when we are in our mothers womb.

Dems are for Homosexuality - Romans 1:26-27 & 1 Corinthians 6:9 show that any homosexuality is a sin and condemned by the Lord.

Obama is against Israel - The Lords chosen People.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright, Obama's reverend/mentor, says that Blacks are God's chosen people and states with passion "God Damn America!"

Furthermore, Democrats are very near-sighted in all things. They look to give the man a fish rather than teach him how to fish. They do what looks good in order to attain office. They bend as the social winds blow. This is clearly not how Christ moved. He was only for one agenda. The Lords.

Christ is not a democrat or a republican. Christ is not affiliated with any political party. Christ did associate with Tax collectors, prostitutes and sinners, but that was to save their soul. To put Obama in the shoes of Christ is blasphemy. Don't kid yourself. Obama is not associated with these despicable people because he wants to witness to them and win them over to Christ. It is strictly political and personal minded.

Please watch this video - "Burning down the house". You will open your eyes to a whole new light of what the Democrats are hiding.

Dustin

When Jesus fed the 5,000 he did not pick and chose who was worthy or not. I am a single mother, a Christian, I teach sunday school at our church,i am a member of the pta, my daughter is in awanas, brownies. i go to school full time for my RN and work full time to support two young children. I also collect welfare: child care assistance, food stamps and CHP+ for my kids. These are all programs that republicans voted against. Republicans also voted against strengthening child support enforecement laws. My ex husband makes over 60k a year: to this day we have not seen a dime.

I am hard working, frugal and could not get through the day were it not for the love of my Savior.
My husband, a non-believer left me and my two young children with no child support. The wages that most companies pay (i am a customer service rep for a wireless company) do not cover basic rent, food and childcare. I make $10.50 an hour. I do not have health insurance. I have severe asthma but cannot afford the medication i need. When I had a severe attack this last may i refused to go into the ER because i cannot afford the bill.
This is my reality. Welfare programs take up less than 1% of the federal budget, yet we are the scapegoats.
perhaps with obama there can be more college money available, more access to health care, a stronger economy. I can tell you that McCain and palin would do little to help our family.
I do disagree with obama on abortion and gay mariage; yet the republicans haven't exactly done much for abortion either. Plus, perhaps with expanded healthcare and access to more family planning we can reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies and subsequent births.

Please Please Please think and pray before you vote. God's laws do not change regardless of economy, war, trials and tribulations. Please vote on Biblical Principles not the Worlds. To Joanna T.-hang in there and stay strong. Nursing school tests your faith in so many ways but know and claim it-God will never leave you or forsake you. hi there
i am not a citizen of the united states. i live in canada and i am a christian.
i have become very cynical of the way your country's administration has been conducting themselves in the past 8 years under false pretenses and in supposedly God's name. I don't want to question whether your current president is a Christian or not. that is between him and God, but I am frustrated that he used his "Christian propaganda" to be voted into office, and has blatantly lied to you as American citizens to go into a war that is seen as illegal in the international community.
To me that is one of the worst ways to conduct yourself as Christian and it has hurt the Cause for Christ.
As more soldiers and civilians (approx. 250 000) are dying each day, because of the decisions your administration has made, I cannot understand the reason to support McCain/Palin, to further the atrocities of war.
Many republicans have called Obama's ticket "too socialist". What is wrong with that? I live in socialist driven country, where everyone is entitled to health care and is taken care of. In my opinion, Jesus would rather see everyone being taken care of,than the rich becoming richer and the poorer becoming poorer. Your country has 50 million people without health care. That is more than the population of Canada.
As for the gay rights and abortion issues.... those are tough. But your country decided long time ago, that there should be separation of religion and state. If you would make abortion illegal, women would find other means of getting it done: either travel to other countries(in Ireland they travel to England)or hurting themselves by underground clinics. I wish everyone could see a fetus conceived as a human being and find other means like adoption, but in the end we cannot dictate one's personal believes, it has to be between them and God.
