Dobson for Romney?

posted by dgilgoff | 7:26pm Tuesday February 5, 2008

brody.jpgHere’s the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody on James Dobson’s McCain denouncement. He sees it as a probable tacit endorsement for Romney. As a former Focus on the Family newsman, Brody would be one to know.

I guess my first question is, “Why come out with this statement now?” The skeptic in me wonders if this is a way of helping Romney without endorsing him. Let’s be real. For Evangelical Dobson to endorse a Mormon would be a tough pill to swallow for many of his loyal listeners so maybe this is code for “Vote for Romney.”
I guess James Dobson won’t be getting any calls from a possible McCain administration if that ever happens. Not that James Dobson really cares about that. I’m sure millions of Evangelicals feel the same way that Dr. Dobson feels, but let’s be clear: not all Evangelicals will jump ship on McCain. He does appeal to many on the national security issue and that trumps many of the other blemishes.

On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. Howard Dean's Vindication
God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states: Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

More Innacurate Faith Storylines From the Media
God-o-Meter is struck by the number of faith-based storylines the news media appear to have gotten dead wrong this year. C’mon! Is anyone asking the question why Dobson would endorse Romney when Huckabee is the only one in the race that actually has a track-record of legitimate opposition to abortion – which Dobson keeps plugging as his key issue? He’s got millions signing a petition to never support a pro-abortion candidate, but he’d support Mitt Romney?? Huckabee has proven he’s a viable candidate – he’s the one to take McCain out and win the White House.
