Dobson for Romney?

Tuesday February 5, 2008

Categories: Mitt Romney

brody.jpgHere's the Christian Broadcasting Network's David Brody on James Dobson's McCain denouncement. He sees it as a probable tacit endorsement for Romney. As a former Focus on the Family newsman, Brody would be one to know.

I guess my first question is, "Why come out with this statement now?" The skeptic in me wonders if this is a way of helping Romney without endorsing him. Let's be real. For Evangelical Dobson to endorse a Mormon would be a tough pill to swallow for many of his loyal listeners so maybe this is code for "Vote for Romney."

I guess James Dobson won't be getting any calls from a possible McCain administration if that ever happens. Not that James Dobson really cares about that. I'm sure millions of Evangelicals feel the same way that Dr. Dobson feels, but let's be clear: not all Evangelicals will jump ship on McCain. He does appeal to many on the national security issue and that trumps many of the other blemishes.

C'mon! Is anyone asking the question why Dobson would endorse Romney when Huckabee is the only one in the race that actually has a track-record of legitimate opposition to abortion - which Dobson keeps plugging as his key issue? He's got millions signing a petition to never support a pro-abortion candidate, but he'd support Mitt Romney?? Huckabee has proven he's a viable candidate - he's the one to take McCain out and win the White House.
