On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. But the burgeoning religious left, which worked so hard to get Obama elected, expects some movement on its issues, including a robust White House office of faith-based initiatives, pove

Howard Dean's Vindication
God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states:
Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

A Post-Election Chat with Ralph Reed
Amid today's talk that Barack Obama has narrowed the God Gap, God-o-Meter checked in with Ralph Reed, who spearheaded religious outreach for George W. Bush's 2000 and 2004 campaigns and who pioneered such outreach for Republicans as executive director of the Christian Coalition.
What surprised you i

More Innacurate Faith Storylines From the Media
God-o-Meter is struck by the number of faith-based storylines the news media appear to have gotten dead wrong this year.
One was the line that Obama was poised to make big gains among white votes, especially evangelicals, who were undergoing a generational shift in their political thinking and reexa

I really do like mike huckabee. but felt at this time he wasnt ready to be the leader of our country. this was after much thought and praying about it also. i feel in time he would make a wonderful leader for our country. i also feel mccain and him would make a great pair im the white house mccain as president and huckabee a vice president. they would compliment each other. we need to keep God in our lives and country and i think these two together would be a strong combination for our country.

For grace:
I have to disagree with your comments. McCain, Obama, and Clinton are all senators while Huckabee was a governor for 0ver 10 years. Modern American voters have shunned Senators and
Congressmen in favor of Governors, Vice Presidents and
Generals. How can senators respond to crisis like
governors? Senators vote all day and are not “in the
trenches” like governors. History has always favored
governors.
Here’s the list:
* Governor George W. Bush over Senator/VP Al Gore
* Governor Bill Clinton over Senator Bob Dole
* Governor Bill Clinton over President George H.W.
Bush
* Vice President George H.W. Bush over Governor
Michael Dukakis
* Governor/President Ronald Reagan over Senator/VP
Walter Mondale
* Governor Ronald Reagan over President Jimmy Carter
* Governor Jimmy Carter over President/Congressman
Gerald Ford
* Vice President Richard Nixon over Senator George
McGovern
* Vice President Richard Nixon over Senator/VP Hubert
Humphrey
* President Lyndon Johnson over Senator Barry
Goldwater
* Senator Jack Kennedy over Senator/VP Richard M.
Nixon
* General Dwight Eisenhower over Senator Adlai
Stevenson

Great Governors?
These former state CEOs have also been successful. The
Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto, in his new book,
Presidential Leadership asked 78 scholars to rate all
of our Presidents. Among the 20th-Century Presidents,
five of those with executive experience — Teddy
Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ike, Ronald Reagan
and Woodrow Wilson — ranked as great or near great.
Among the seven with legislative experience, only
Harry S Truman made the cut. On average, 20th-Century
Presidents who had been Governors (plus Eisenhower)
scored 3.51 on a five-point scale; the others who had
served in the House or Senate, 2.81.
Reason
Why are Governors so successful?
In a nutshell, Governors are decision-makers;
legislators are deliberators.
It’s playing out in 2004, too. Senator Kerry looks for
nuanced coalitions. He parses words and dances around
“complicated issues.” Mr. Bush is blunt and simplistic
– some may say he’s a simpleton.
But it’s easier to rally around crisp commands than a
40-page policy manifesto.
To be quite honest I’m not sure what america is
thinking in these 2008 choices. You have to shake your
head and wonder. I believe America is smoking crack!

Huckabe is a huckster. He should keep his religion out of politics.
