McCain lost Texas evangelicals to Mike Huckabee 49-percent to 39-percent. It appears that McCain’s born again troubles have only worsened since Super Duper Tuesday a month ago. When does he launch his evangelical turnaround effort?

He doesn’t need to. He has the nomination and the Evangelicals can either vote for him or have four years of someone that they really don’t want.

Hopefully evangelicals have learned their lessons this year. It appears they believe they have too much political influence for their own good. If they can not get along with the broader Republican base, then it will be out in the wilderness for them for a long, long time.

A better question is Why would he want to? or, Why should he have to?
There aren’t supposed to BE any religious tests to hold public office in America.

Recovering Ex-P,
I agree that there are no religious tests for public office. But there’s a real question about whether McCain can get enough voters from the GOP’s evangelical base to win in November. That’s not a test established by me, but by conservative evangelical voters or the American electoral system.
