Obama in Colorado Springs Today

Wednesday July 2, 2008

colorado springs.jpgA day after announcing his plan to beef up President Bush's office of faith-based initiatives, Barack Obama pops up today in Colorado Springs, whose reputation as the country's evangelical capital has earned it the nickname "Vatican West." The Obama camp says the timing is pure coincidence. You buy that?

Here's the Obama camp's one-liner on Obama's Colorado Springs appearance today:

Today, Barack Obama will visit the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs to discuss his plan to boost national service--from the military, to AmeriCorps, to the foreign service, to working to make your neighborhood a better place.

Into the Belly of the Beast! A brave man, indeed. I notice he is not speaking at the Air Force Academy. Now that may be due to an absence of students - but I think it says more about in what Obama has hope - the secular, academic, non-military realm - GOOD! I wish him well.
