Obama in Touch with Focus on the Family

With Barack Obama in Colorado Springs, CO for a speech today, God-o-Meter checked in with Focus on the Family, the granddaddy of evangelical megagroups in the Springs, to see if Obama had any plans to stop by while he was in town. Here’s what Focus on the Family Vice President of Media and Public Relations Gary Schneeberger reports:

There is no meeting scheduled. There have been talks between his staff
and our staff — very cordial conversations — but nothing is imminent. We would certainly meet with the senator or his staff if such a visit could be arranged.

Wow. A Democratic presidential nominee is in cordial conversations with Focus on the Family? By way of comparison, here’s how Robert Novak described recent talks between Focus on the Family and John McCain:

After McCain clinched the nomination, however, Dobson privately invited him to Focus on the Family headquarters in Colorado Springs. When members of the Family Policy Council gathered there May 9 for an annual conference, word spread that McCain’s campaign staff had rebuffed Dobson.
It was not that simple. The McCain campaign had responded that the senator would be in Denver on May 2 and would be happy to see Dobson in his hotel suite for a visit not limited by time. Dobson declined and asked McCain to come to Colorado Springs. McCain then also declined.

On The Religious Left, Great Expectations
The first priorities for Barack Obama's administration will be the economy and a variety of foreign policy issues. But the burgeoning religious left, which worked so hard to get Obama elected, expects some movement on its issues, including a robust White House office of faith-based initiatives, pove

Howard Dean's Vindication
God-o-Meter wrote a piece for today's Roll Call on the vindication of Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean's much-derided 50-State Strategy, which is largely about reaching out to the nation's more religious voters in the red states: Years before Barack Obama showed that a liberal Demo

A Post-Election Chat with Ralph Reed
Amid today's talk that Barack Obama has narrowed the God Gap, God-o-Meter checked in with Ralph Reed, who spearheaded religious outreach for George W. More Innacurate Faith Storylines From the Media
God-o-Meter is struck by the number of faith-based storylines the news media appear to have gotten dead wrong this year. I can imagine the creeeeek of the door and the wizened eye peeking out – and spying a young energetic balck guy. The dusty voice suggests the service entrance in the back, but the young man insists he is the presidential candidate. All he hears next is an wheezing “NO!” and the door slams.
Obama went to them and they refused – it will not look good for FoF. He is trying to use a faith based framework, and they said not good enough – they are coming off as greedy, perhaps because they will not benefit from all the dirent and indirect finding their groups were promised a few years ago. He is comfortable talking about God, sex, and Money – and they are afraid of all three.
Obama has effectively slain a dragon that was little more than smoke and dust.

A meeting with FOF would be as monumental as a meeting with Raul Castro.
Dobson was willing to meet with McCain on his terms but not on the Senator’s terms. He wanted a photo op and McCain wanted to talk. Who’s the Mega-trope?
Obama was willing to meet with Dobson but nothing came of that. Dobson would rather cast stones and lambaste Obama with innuendoes than meet face to face. He really doesn’t want to meet with McCain either, so how’s the loser and who’s the winners?
Dobson is just a mealy mouth radio personality.

I want my money back! What money you ask? The tax money that I am forced to pay while FOF and the John Dobsonite’s continue to receive “tax free” status as some type of “religious” organization when in fact everyone with a “brain” can see that they are all about money and politics! They only use “god” when it’s convenient; and that is usally when they want to claim “tax free” status. Sure the IRS investigated them under the Bush administration and guess what – they past muster! Our “skull and bones” president would make sure of that since the Dobsonites helped him get elected. These “faith based” tax free snobs make me regurgitate! The Dobsonites have “paid” their way into every state and every election and have unduly enfluenced the “elected” because of their “tax free” money and “religious” power over those who can’t think for themselves. I hope that one day “We The People” will see them for the charlatans that they really are!

What the hell is this place? I’m a little confused. I thought this site promoted faith and inspiration.
Oh, I get it now. Not faith in Christ, faith in the Obamanation that causes desolation. Matthew 24:15-16

Bitter, spite-filled posts that misquote Scripture don’t “promote faith and inspiration” either, wanker.

“Obamanation” – That’s hilarious! Very clever! Too bad you’re probably a retard.
